Just rewired a mustang (standard wiring) with a GFS lipstick in the neck and a Teisco in the bridge. Both PUPs had three wires. I twisted the grounds together and soldered them to their respective spots on the switches. Problem is...

Whenever one of the pups is touched, it buzzes like mad. The buzz goes down a little bit when the strings are touched, but not much. There is also no buzz in the out of phase modes. Any ideas? Pretty positive it's wired correctly. I checked and re-checked.

Sounds like a grounding issue, make sure your bridge is grounded and that will help a bit!

Made sure the ground was good and it is. Further info though-- I'm only getting buzz when the switches are to the right. So, either switch to the left/both switches to the left, no buzz when touching.

Original mustangs had plastic pickup covers to prevent the pole pieces shorting on the strings. Do your pickups have a metal cover or open poles? If there's a solder tag on the back of the pickup connected to the shield, then switch the tag to the coil finish/earth tag instead.

Also make sure there is continuity between the cavity shielding and back of a pot to complete the shielding. If all that fails, if you put up a photo up it might show something up..

Thanks, all. I ended up just saying 'fuck it' and threw two toggles on the control plate. I never liked those stang switches anyhow.
