Soooo, I'm supposed to meet and actually...vocalize...for a band tomorrow. Soooo what experiences do you guys have with this? Preferably from the musician's perspective.
I've met them once before and kind of "jammed" I've listened to some of their demoes and written some lyrics/a verse or two for a couple songs. Most of the music is fairly dense so it wasn't too hard laying a melody over it.
Sooooo, yeah, I don't know how this is going to go down.
And for the record I have the exact opposite of a "lead-singer" ego/persona irl. MAKE ME FEEL BETTER ILF.

Yeah, my biggest problem is having words to sing. Last time I sat in with them, I was just singing to myself (we didn't have a PA set up) at times using words off a beer bottle.

Could go all Bon Iver and do the melody with some nonsense then go back and make words fit in with the rhythm / sounds.

I MADE UP A SONG (WITH REAL WORDS) AS WE PRACTICED AND IT WAS EVEN BETTER THAN THE THREE I HAD ALREADY PREPARED.
I FEEL LIKE IGGY POP EXCEPT WITH TOO MANY CLOTHES ON.
seriously, just singing in a band is so different.
I'm gonna get all the babes, and then break up the band but keep touring under the same band's name.
But really, just being a vocalist is really interesting.

That's cool dude, I'd love to be a good enough singer that I could just be "the singer", I would dig it so much.

I've got some pointers
1. your hands are free! drink up, buddy
2. use the godamn mic stand, you'll look cool hanging off of it and swiveling it around
3. now for a lesson on stage moves:

That's like one of my favorite movies ever.
I just need to lose a little tummy pudge before I can really pull off the tight black jeans only look.
Or I can just work on my Ian Curtis style moves.

don't sing too much. lead vocalist complex, they feel like they have to always be singing. let the song breathe a little and let the other instruments have some space.
also, make sure you're not pulling stage antics that are out of sync with the rest of the band and their energy. they'll kick you out if you do. treat yourself like another instrument and not like the focal point of the band.

if your band members don't want you smashing bottles over your head on stage they're not worthy of your presence
