I don't understand why everyone feels so disenfranchised. You don't vote for the leader you vote for the policies. Sure Rudd and Abbott are both colossal cunts but I sure as fuck know which direction I want this country to take. Besides, we are lucky enough to live in a country where voting for someone other than the two major parties can make a huge difference in the balance of power. Also, preferential voting.

I agree. I just don't think my opinion is worth considering because I don't get involved in politics at all and will most likely move overseas as soon as I can afford to do so.

Actually, I agree with you wholeheartedly. Personally though, I haven't heard any well thought out policies/policies I can agree with/policies that will actually survive the election (realistically) and I'm sick of the cult of personality around these Fuckheads instead of a focus on realistic and progressive policies. Not shit that sets us back/or is blatantly fucking stupid. The preference system is nearly useless in a two party preferred system like ours. Its game theory.

I'm usually a swinging voter and it has actually taken a lot to get me to throw my vote away. I can see how that might piss you off, but in all honesty, I just don't feel like enough has been done to earn anyone's vote, let alone little ol me.

Ok, I'm done ranting now.

It has a few annoying quirks but I dig the system we have over in NZ, where you get one vote for your local MP (which I think should be preferential, but it's FPtP) and a second party vote which makes up the percentages of Parliament. I LIKE the fact this always ends up with cobbled together coalition governments, who can't just push shit through. Although our right wingers managed to almost get 50% last time, and have been pushing laws through under urgency with no democratic scrutiny.... *sigh*

Still, they got their turn and will probably get kicked out in the next one. We seem to go through cycles of progressive Labour govts getting in and shaking things up a bit (in fact they fucking pushed through all the neo-liberal reforms during the 80s, under some sort of Thatcherite fucking spell), then having National come in and run the country for a few terms while gutting the public service.

Having to put a preference for every candidate seems fucking stupid. Surely going to ten or something would be enough? I guess its that whole "you must vote" law... if your preferences were exhausted, your vote wouldn't count.
