drone as meditation
If you make drone/sound scapes, why do you do it? Just for fun,as meditation, etc? I find sitting on the floor of my garage by myself with a drone box and my amp on 10 as a almost religious experience. I totaly lose myself. It helps me deal with the stress of daily/modern life. It's a form of meditation.

Yep, I do it all the time. Also do it with loud static noise as well. Totally gets out of body calming

Yup, if I'm in a shitty mood the motto is: turn up and drone out. Guaranteed bad mood cure

I find myself doing this a lot as well. Get some looper/reverb action going and let your mind drift....

A vessel for anger / guilt / sorrow / frustration . After playing (droning) hard those things tend to leave me (thankfully) for a feeling of empty calm.
It also seems to be one of the most expressive and emotional things I can feed to a listener's ear/mind as well.
(Hopefully they feel that way and not wtf is this noise shit I paid for mediocre blues rock/indie pop

i love doing loops that develop to a point where i can leave the loop going for hours nd never get tired of it. the looper is superb for drones...i stack single notes into architectural shapes. i really dig the idea of creating audio environments.

Re: drone as meditation
I love looping feedbacking out of control delay over and over and then unplugging my guitar and getting that weird percussion-like noise and looping that and then sprawling out on my floor and thinking... or doodling over it at lower volumes, but this is a drone thread so the first one!

This is good. I'll sometimes loop a conventional riff and then add to it, and add to it, and add to it etc. till its totally different, then continue to add loops till it comes back to something that makes sense. I'll do this for myself, by myself and it is definitely something that leaves me with a sense of peace.

Re: drone as meditation
I'm not much of a "drone" player necessarily. I do create (mostly) loop-based music, but keep the loops relatively short so as to create "chapters" within the framework of a greater whole. However, there have been times when I'd loop something, then keep the amp on and go be contemplative. As far as meditative, droning awesomeness goes, I really, really like what Blackened-Soul does, and Bassus' more drone-y stuff, too. So much so that I felt kinda funny after I listened to the works of each in succession.

does sitting on the floor and spacing out long periods while your bass is feeding back count?
