I was gonna make a "What are you really reading?" thread.

No need for that now.

(I live to read, read to live.)

I trust authors more than film makers If I want a decent, thought out story. I'm kind of bummed out on boring films and being online is tiresome.

I love that hicks vid.
Right now Im reading for uni, but I love reading for the enjoyment of it every other time. Escapism, learning, expanding mental horizons, new ideas, concepts, to feel connected to humanity (for better or worse), vicarious experience mongering.
It's all good.
I thank fuck I'm literate, I really do. Good shit happens when you can read and write, people!
Although, I concede I get lazy with my punctuation and grammar when I post here. Spelling takes a turn for the worse, as well.

i read because i can't help it...i learned to read on my own at 3 1/2 (well, that or i'm really a reincarnated soul from the 60 million WWII dead) and love learning about anything that can hold my interest. sometimes i play Wikipedia Hansel & Gretel, following a subject off in weird directions from linked topics. for example, the other night i had to look up some details in order to write a post on another forum refuting the notion that "Hitler was a Socialist," and wound up spending a happy hour and a half reading about American Nazis, weird-ass Christian Identity types in far northern Idaho, and early 20th Century occultism. i can start from dinosaurs and wind up reading about Comet Shoemaker-Levy crashing into Jupiter. it entertains me better than sex, drugs, or television. my favorite thing about the Internet is that my laptop is an encyclopedia.

Dubkitty, I think Wikipedia is one of the best creations ever. Free knowledge for everyone, contributed by anyone. I've though for some time now that the founder should get a Nobel prize for it. Not that the Nobel peace prize means anything anymore, but if it did . . .

"We want information. Information. Information. Who are you? The new number two! Who's number one? You are number six! I AM NOT A NUMBER! I AM A FREE MAN! HAHAHAHA!"

I'd like to be reading to learn, but I pretty much only read fiction. In a way I can learn about the artistic side of writing and ponder some light philosophical issues, but I'd rather be gaining more... applicable knowledge as well as being entertained/interested (I want it all (too much?)). Problem is I have a hard time getting into books that don't engage me fairly quickly, which has led me to stop reading those kinds of books soon after starting them, and prevents me from looking for books to read in general.

I don't know. I feel like I don't have the motivation to enforce discipline on myself when it comes to reading.

The same reason I listen to music, watch movies, play video games etc etc. Entertainment basically. Sure there's all that hoity toity arty intellectual bs, but honestly if you aren't reading because you enjoy it, you're doing it wrong.
