my dad was adopted back in the day, back when adoption secrecy was serious business
so i sprung for a pretty affordable dna test of my fathers side
just got the results back and GUESS WHAT im really, really mexican. i had no idea.
i think it's kinda cool, now that it's sunk in, at first i was just fucking shocked, because i'm a straight up pale ass WASP
i did it thru a website and for the paternal test they were running a promo where it was only like 40 bucks.
obviously this science is still in it's infancy, in terms of the everyday consumer.
cool thing about the website i decided to go with is...unless someone chooses to opt out, you get to see the name of your dna matches who are registered there, and also they list the oldest known relative.
i have 21 matches on the site, 8 of them have latino surnames. all different names too. and they all appear to originate from mexico.
the oldest known relative of those 8 goes back to the late 16th century.
trippy stuff man!
now that i have a bunch of names, i can go on ancestry.com and see if i can make sense of this.
i feel like the lead actor in that new hbo show Family Tree.
