Wife wants a cheap laptop mainly for internet. By cheap I mean around 400 bucks. I was thinking either
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007UE ... OQB63SPG0D
or
http://www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiron-i15 ... B00AM7MM4I

but I don't know much.
What do you think?
and can I play Diablo 3 on one of these when she is away?

Thank You.

Go with the first one if you want to play newer games. You wont be able to run at full but itll be decent. Anything with out a graphics card is gonna inhibit you. I have a 3.2 ghz processor and 8 gb of ram and thats not enought to run shit with out a graphics card. My comp is for music creation only though. My gf plays sims 3 on it but its so choppy unless you turn all graphics thangs all the way down.

I just gotta say, I would never recommend a Dell to anyone. The only people I know who have stories of catastrophic computer failures all had Dells. I knew someone who had their motherboard replaced three times before Dell just gave them a whole new laptop, and someone who had the hard drive, optical drive, screen, and motherboard all fail on different occasions. I know it's just anecdotal evidence and I don't know what overall reliability statistics look like for the past few years, but still. I hate Dell.

Other than that though, there's no laptop on the market that won't handle basic internet stuff. I'd watch places like slickdeals for clearance kinda sales that happen fairly regularly since you don't need the latest models. Dunno how intense D3 is, so I can't comment on that.

i just picked up a toshiba laptop for $279 from best buy for work. all it was needed for was to run a vinyl cutter, but it's decent, aside from its touchpad blowing in comparison to those on macs and how windows 8 is probably the most atrocious OS ever...

chrome books and other netbooks are a waste of money.

they're like $250, you can get a really fast (for non gaming/light gaming) laptop for $300. i'd stay away from Compaq or Dell though. i've always had good quality from Toshiba and HP.

For the record ive had a dell inspirion laptop that had heavy use for 2 and ahlf years with out ever having a problem. Ive owned two toshiba laptops that crapped out with in a year. I had an HP sceen completely go out in a year. The dell has been the best laptop and its for sale[spam] if youre interested. It a huge sucker...a "desktop replacement" no issues.

I hate Windows 8. Good thing about buying from Amazon is with Prime, you can have delivered, returned without a fee or a squeek. Already my wife hated Windows 8 and the 17 inch monitor.

I want to go on a rant about Win 8 but it's not worth the time.

I said the same thing when I started using it. Its really no different. Honestly it just feels like a home screen was added. I see no real difference in how it operates. It still has a desktop screen. And you can mod it to be just like old version if u want.

Yeah, I guess so. I didn't spend enough time with it. Still, after she gets a computer it will take me tonnes of software to get it to where it is facile for her. I don't need to also redevelope the GUI.

aside from that toshiba laptop all the desktops at my fam's biz are dells, have been for about a decade. i hate windows regardless but they're not bad comps.

also microsoft just put out 8.1 due to all the shit they're being given about the atrocity of 8. haven't seen the update yet just caught the headline...
