The thing to remember about Phelps and his crew it that they are starved for attention. They'll do anything for attention. The more attention they get, the more they win.

The other thing is that they are all lawyers. They break no laws. They try to bait people into violence. They then sue them and build up their coffers. They commit no crimes.

They are the poster children for tolerance. They illustrate how ugly and twisted intolerance can be. Most people couldn't identify with these people who protest at people's funerals. Their presence is a clear object lesson.

Westboro Baptist is sickening but isn't like 80% of the church related to Fred Phelps? So at least it attests more to the power of brain washing than to any notion that he is making any viable arguments.
