Oh man, I'm insanely jealous. Japan is really a wonderful place. I was there in 2008, but I'd be more than happy to help out with any questions you have. Any idea what city/cities?

We stayed at this great little hotel in Ueno (part of Tokyo) called Oak Hotel. Super affordable, comfortable, and right down the street from Ueno Station.

You need to go to the Robot Restaurant in Tokyo, bro. NEED TO.

Also, the Poor Cow bar is run by one of the dudes who used to be in Teengenerate and seems to be a really chill place...

If you have money to spend, I suggest you both invest in the rail pass. Unlimited rides on the above-ground trains as well as the shinkansen.

I speak some Japanese, which definitely helped, but there's English just about everywhere in Tokyo. Osaka isn't quite as touristy as Tokyo, but it still shouldn't be too much of a problem. Either way, learning some basic kanji, phrases, customs, and things definitely not to do would be suggested  With currency, you'll get used to guestimating pretty quickly. Just think of yen as a cent, then adjust accordingly to the exchange rate.

Friends of mine are actually going on tour in Japan for a couple of weeks in August, so once they have a complete itinerary, I can let you know the names of some clubs.

You know, if I had a spare $200, I'd put myself down to nab a space echo as well. Could be a good way to make some money, let's face it, they float st $800+ down here for shit ones.
