Luck Duck Pedals - shady, under-handed practices

hey ch'all.

(original post not valid anymore)

Luck Duck Pedals sold me a pedal that i thought was broken. i know how carrier signals work, i know there can be issues taming them. but this thing just screeches at you when it's turned on. sucks, because when one is playing through it, it sounds like it might actually sound good.

i contacted the builder that i bought directly from asked if it was broken, if not how do i get a refund, he said that's how it's supposed to sound and gave me pedantic description of why that's just how sample rate reducers sound (ifffffffffff you're a lazy shit and release a half finished design i guess). when i told him this pedal is useless to me, he told me that he doesn't do refunds. i bristled, he OH SO KINDLY offered to take it back and refund me...... minus 30%. that's just insulting. soooooo......... "demo" vidja -

edit - he finally got badgered by y'alls reactions and blowback from that vidja into giving me a full refund. he DID send all my money, plus the shipping i had paid, back. i mailed him his pedal. then it turns out he had made an alt, PeaceGuitar, to insult us and talk about how i was lying, asked Daltz to ban me and remove these threads.

Alt Shenanigans start at page 17.

30 days, clock is ticking. I'm assuming you thought it would be a working GOOD sounding pedal?

You can try. Paypal really skews in the buyer's favor with claims.
eg: the infamous violin incident.

oog. THAT thing.

yah. purchase as like 10 days ago? he lagged on shipping, the box it came in the pedal was in a ziplock bag with a bunch of newspaper stuffed in there. it seems PHYSICALLY okay, but it's just useless the way it sounds. and it wasn't cheap. when i asked him if it's s'posed to sound this way and sent him an audio clip of the awful he blew me off. stuff like "they're hand made to order so i don't do refunds. i can't sell it as a new pedal now." and even told me "sell it to someone on a guitar gear forum, people are always looking for new pedals and I'm sure you would have no problem selling it". it's AWFUL. i wouldn't give this thing away.

guess i'll file a PayPal claim now. i don't have much hope that he'll do the right thing.

I think it depends on his return policy as stated on his website.

The worst that can happen is that they say no.

Didn't see your last post.

In that case, seems like you're SOL.

yah. filed the claim.

on his site on the Home and About section it doesn't discuss refunds at all.

yeah. i might have got burned on this. if so, oh well. it wasn't cheap, but at least it was sub-$200.

Good luck with the claim. Hope it all works out.

If it didn't specifically say anything about refunds on his site, that may be to your favor.

yeah, if it explicitly says "No refunds" you might be SOL, but if it does not....
Without disclosing the builder, what is it? some things are subjective and work better in different rigs. Slow gear for instance will not work at all for me with some settings and shines with others.

it's a sample rate reducer. thing it does that's awful is the carrier signal is LOUD. like, as loud as what's played through it. even when not playing.

so when it's clicked on there's always a super loud feedbacking whine.

that...... y'know.... is tuneable with the resolution knob.... so.... that's.... good?

thing is completely useless.

lol. SICK BURN.

yeah. i'm lucky if he's a dick still and PayPal can't/won't do anything. it was only $155. it's more the attitude than the money.

although i'd like the money back too.
