so. Spring Breakers. so good. like, WONDERFUL understanding of the audience, and how scenes will make you feel and what expectations they bring... and then GOODNESS. very cool storytelling.
and i've never loved James Franco, don't really dig on Harmony Korine, and don't know enough about pop music/tv/tweener stuff to get any of the It's Subversive 'Cause Selina Gomez Almost Has Her Titties Out. there were boobs galore from the rest of the cast and extras.... but. yeah.
Franco hellza reminded me of Gary Oldman's Drexler character from True Romance, if he was younger, borderline functionally retarded, and just having a BLAST being himself. with money. and titties roaming in packs. and SHURRRRRRikens.
i REALLY liked this movie. like, Running Scared was better, but totally how i went to see a meh sounding movie with an actor that i always hated watching and ended up LOVING it.
..... did i mention the titties? there were tittes EVARYWHAR. not only white bewbz either! yay!

I'm glad to read this, because people in the Korine thread were dissin' it and it made me sad cuz I was hoping it was good. Soon I shall have to see for myself.

i kinda loved it. i'm defo gonna buy it when it hits BluRay, and it kinda feels like one of those quirky yet lovable movies that i'll end up watching once a year or so. the rotation right now is stuff like Snatch, Running Scared, Leon, Fight Club, Old Boy.... um. some others i'm spacing on.
it was fucking FUN. like, seriously, i think Korine kinda relies on cheap exploitive OH I'M SO EDGY AND SHOCKING stuff in most of his other films, but this was beautiful in the presentation. showed MAD skill and understanding of movie goers. in a good way.
i LAHKED it.

I was pleased you liked this until you mentioned still watching Leon, cause knowing you that's probably not cause you're perving on 12 year old Natalie Portman.

sigh. she IS adorable in that movie. but i was like 16 or so when that came out and she was 12. so.... not really adorable in a Put Mah Peen In You way. but in V For Vendetta? when she's a 28 year old dressing as a pigtailed tiny thing? YESH PLEASE. loooove herrrrrrr.
all the main grrLs in Spring Breakers were plain blonde white grrLs. neat tits on them i guess, but they don't do much for me. but the movie was goooooooooood.

I don't disagree with that, but Leon was just boring as hell. The love story of a man and his plant, they should've had Tom Hanks play the lead with Meg Ryan as the plant.

This is who James Franco's character was based on. Riff Raff's been joking about the whole thing for months now, but he's had this look and attitude for years. Look at his interviews and it makes even more sense.

Why are we talking about Leon anyway?
Really excited to see Spring Breakers

lol. yeah. he did remind me of Riff Raff a bit. but like, a version that didn't get the joke and took it to it's logical extreme. and was having wayyyy too much fun doing it. 's the first time i've seen Franco do really impressive acting stuff. my little brother swears by him from City By The Sea, but that movie was awful. not watching it again.
there's like.... these wonderfully setup forboding scenes followed by a tad surreal, but in a funny way not a let's break your mood way, scenes. i dug it a lot.
HAKI I LOVE YOU WHY MUST YOU TROLL SO HARD. Leon was fucking great. i can watch the scene of Reno cheesing out and screaming MATILLLLLLDAAAAA to the sky for HOURS. and Oldman is so damn good.
"i do admit that he tends to get a bit boring after the intro..... THAT'S WHY. I. STOPPED!"

What I liked the most about putting selena gomez in the movie was the real life discomfort she showed being at those locations. I personally don't care for her as an actress but a lot of that discomfort was real. I found that to be really clever. add on top her attempt to act cool about it and it was very convincing/ very meta.
apperantly franco stayed in character even when the camera wasn't rolling, which only added to the on set 'wtf'/ and lets not deny that korine is a fucking weirdo too. haha.
I think korine's directing approach translates really well to the screen, it's always very convincing because it's real to begin with. if the subject matter is boring to you, then obviously the movie will be boring too.

I thought the lighting/cinematography of the movie was amazing. And I agree with what was said earlier, the-Selena-wanting-to-go-home scene was my favorite. But, the last half hour of the movie was like the worst rap video (spoiler)
Gucci Mane and Franco fronting with their guns in the strip club, driving up on each other "You wanna DIE tonight?" and, the ending was just stupid with the girls running around in bikinis and ski masks and shit
All that had undone what I had liked earlier in the movie, and left me

after the movie. I make it sound way worse than it is, it's just that I wanted something (that I think should've been) better from Harmony.
I did like that it was empowering to women, though.

Forressted - i don't really want to bash him 'cause with all the ridiculously safe and boring stuff coming out nowadays it's great that someone is still getting to do movies the way they want, but this is the first movie he did that i thought "wow. THAT is some fucking directing.". and the framing for shots was awesome. the mood set by most scenes was just perfect. Kids was mostly that other guy right? Gumma and Julien Donkey Boy and Ken Parks.... i dunno. there was a cool scene or two, but they felt like watching your annoying little brother's friend that just figured out the word fuck and pussy and dick run around and be SOOOO SHOOOOCKING. i love me some odd scenes in movies, but if the whole movie feels like just some bullshit to get some weird things recorded instead of having the odd stuff be in service to an interesting story.... just doesn't do it for me.
*Snob Voice is GO*
so..... INFANTILE.

iiiiiii..... don't know shit about Selina Gomez. she was a Disney GrrL Designed Product Tween Bait thing right? and used to fuck around with Teh Biebz? i guess? first time i've seen her in a movie and i thought she was good. well, after the jail scene i thought she was good. everything up to that was kinda predictable Innocent GrrL meanderings. but after that she made me believe that she was scared and uncomfortable as butts.
Mustachio Furiouso - lol. i'm not sure how i feel about the ending. Gucci Mane is another person i know nothing about, so i though he was just a sloppy fat dood with too many tats. spoiler -
i kinda thought all the thug fronting on each other was a'ight. like, it made Franco look like a little bitch that'd never done anything harder than stick up drunk party kids that were Spring Breaking. FOREVER. which was reinforced by his silly yet awesomely hilarious boastings.
ennnnnnnding - Franco catching a bullet to the head at jump was kinda perfect to me. left the How Hard Is He Really thing totally unresolved, showed how shit doesn't go right when you're doing all that bullshit. i really liked that. the grrLs going Super Action Hero was kind of dumb. i thought it was going to pan back and show them all shot to shit and that was their dying fantasy. but that kinda made me like it because yeah, it was cheesy, but the whole movie kept setting up scene after scene of expectations that it then subverted.
f'realz. almost every scene had me and my little brother yelling, "oh you dumb bitches is about to get RAPED" at the screen. and it never happened.
non-spoilery addendum to the last spoilery line in that NSFW tag, how awesome a line is -
"oh you're never going to get this pussssssssy."
"i'm not going to fuck that pussy?"
"no. because you're a little BITCH."
