Straight Razor Shaving

I really want to get into wet shaving with a straight razor, because I want to be a manly man, and grow a rad mustache.

Does anyone here already do that? Any idea where to start?

I'm poor and want to buy a razor and small kit, but can't find a good starter one for under $100 that I think will last long enough to justify spending the money.

Or, I can learn to shave myself, and not be a little baby about it. (Why is there not emoticon with a royal as fuck mustache?)

But, I appreciate the links guys. I've decided to grow a killer stache, because this job won't let me have a beard, but I can have a mustache. I feel weird being clean shaven, so I'm going to ride out the creep-stache until I'm rockin' a full on sweet-ass stache.

I kindof think people who do this are douchebags. Like the people who buy $90 razor handles at art of shaving...

And I'm sure those people think musicians are douchebags for buying $1000 guitars, amps, etc.
If it lasts years and you have to shave everyday then it is completely justifiable to spend a decent amount of money on a razor.
Granted, there are always people who go overboard with it. Just like some us.

Just my 2 cents.

I have a double edge safety razor and love it. Not that I shave much at all. But it was worth every penny IMO. Personally wouldn't try a straight razor because I'm happy with a DE.

10+ years w/ straight razors. Works good, does what it should, plus COWBOY!!

I got into it because it was cheap. I mean stupid cheap. $2.99 for a razor, $1.99 for five blades. I was getting about a month or two out of each blade. A Dianne Model 21.
Finally bought me a fancy knife a year or two ago, a Dovo Ebony Spike. A modest, but nice piece of metal. That thing is like running a feather across your cheek/chin/neck/etc. Its an absolute peach.

I've been shaving with safety razors for about 4 years and straight razors for about 3 years.

There are a lot of good forums focused on the practice:

http://straightrazorplace.com/forum : The biggest and probably most knowledgeable of the forums. Not always the friendliest.

http://badgerandblade.com/vb : Almost as knowledgeable as SRP. The Mods tend to be pretty ban-happy for some reason.

http://theshaveden.com/forums : Hands down the friendliest and laid back of all the forums.

Check out http://www.whippeddog.com for insane deals on high quality starter gear.

Well, my safety razor broke last night halfway through my fucking shave. Had to finish up with a disposable razor and my neck was on fire.

Time to upgrade. Stuck trying to choose between several models. Someone give me a hand.

I'm looking at the following:
Merkur 33C
Merkur 34C
Merkur 25C
Merkur 38C
Merkur 15C
Merkur 23C
Edwin Jagger Classic (Barley Handle)
Bluebeard's Revenge "Scimitar"

I might even buy two so I can really find out what I like.

What do you swamp donkeys think?

I can't remember which model I've got (I've had it forever). I think it's the 33C and I'd highly recommend it.

If I were buying a new razor, I go with that or the 23C.
