Someone sold me a broken pedal in the Buy/Sell/Trade

I bought a pedal from another ILF user in the ILF Buy Sell Trade.

-and he's not responding to PMs
-and he's currently selling another pedal in the Buy Sell Trade
-and he's replying to other threads in the B/S/T offering his other pedal for trade

So can I out the user or are there rules here against that (like they have on TGP)?

I paid paypal, so can at least file a claim.

I'd suggest talking to a moderator.
PumpkinPieces or Tom Dalton, perhaps?

They have rules like that on TGP?

I'd say accusing someone publicly should always be a last resort if things can't get worked out privately.

I think we should have a "Bad trader reference thread". Because, not to be negative, with the good always comes the bad.

People should know about genuinely bad sellers/traders.

Thanks guys, I'll give the seller another day or so, then I'll contact a mod.

especially if they're reading PMs and not getting back to you, yeah i'd call 'em out. both hopefully to get your situation taken care of and to forewarn others.

i did that with nieh since he disappeared on finishing a trade deal. he came back after i did that and apologized and said he'd take care of it then disappeared once again.

:ilf: doesnt have any rules against calling someone out. it has happened a few times and usually does wind up with some sort of shitstorm and results. im not saying you should, just that there are no rules against it.

i would still at least notify pumpkin pieces or TOM DALTON via pm about it. that way they could check to see if this person has been a problem in the past.

Whats broken about it? Like smashed? Does it maybe not jive with your power supply? I wouldnt out the guy unless its totally ffed and he keeps ignoring you. Maybe his PMs are full too. Start with a MOD seems like a good idea.

if his PMs are full the messages would be stuck in the sender's outbox and not moved to sent messages.

Yupers, I've always thought this, and occasionally I get the impression we have one of these, but we don't... Yet.

I'm sure the pedal isn't working as it should.

I bought it because a buddy (another ILFer) has one which I played through a few weeks back. Loved it, decided to get one too.

When mine arrived I could tell right away it wasn't delivering the same effect. It's a super fuzz clone with an extra switch to add or subtract the octave. With my unit the basic fuzz seems to work fine, but turning on the octave has no effect. Pretty glaring problem that I doubt just popped up in shipping.

Today I was able to A/B against my friends' pedal, and his sounds very different when you engage the octave. I made a video which I've sent to builder to see what he thinks the problem might be.

To be honest, even the basic fuzz tone sounds better on my friends' pedal, so I'm wondering if this is just a bum unit or maybe the previous owner fried something.

This is all the more aggravating because the seller shipped UPS instead of USPS, and rip-off Brown charged me an extra $60 in brokerage and duty fees (it would have been $0 with USPS) before they would release my pedal, meaning after shipping I actually ended up paying OVER retail for the danged thing. I was prepared to just suck it up and get on with life until I plugged in the pedal and it wasn't even working properly!

In the end, I've had hundreds of good deals between here, TGP, and a couple other forums; this is the first time I've had a problem, so I can't really complain too much.

Not cool.

Really sorry to hear this. Good thing you can turn him into PayPal if it comes to that.

Yikes...we don't have a rule against outing people like that on TGP. Of course, it's not cool to call someone out prematurely...which would probably get you called out in return. So that kind of situation would work itself out naturally (if not pleasantly!). Haha.

Anyway, you're doing it the right way.

Give him another day, but PM me with the time-frame stuff (like when you let him know about the issue, how long it's taken him to reply, etc).
I'm here to talk and will help out however I can!
He's definitely risking being outed publicly and having the shit banned out of him.

Check your Outbox...if the messages you sent him are still in there, he hasn't read them yet.

Cheers Tom, thanks kindly for the reply and advice.

I'll give it a few days to let the whole thing sort itself out. If nothing comes of it, I'll send you a PM to let you know.

And thanks to all for the helpful replies!

So the pedal you bought...and the one your buddy has...is by the same builder?
able to post a gut shot(s)? may be able to spot something....

Yep, exact same circuit from the exact same builder.

I've sent a video to the builder with both pedals side by side. Gonna wait to see what he says before I do anything further.
