Power Supply Advice For Fellow Dumbsh!ts

Be careful with your power supply needs peoples.

I recently ruined an awesome Dwarfcraft pedal by using a dodgy power suppy given to me by an I.T d!ck who insisted it was good for guitar pedals. The supply was 9v DC so I stupidly figured yeah, all good. However I was unaware of polarity issues and the difference between negative and positive tip supplys (I am now).

The pedal, or at least the protection diode, is now fried.

TOTAL LOSS (SO FAR) = $200

To add to my dumbf*#kery, I realised I had previously tried charging a rechargable Redwitch Compressor pedal with the same dodgy supply. I have now tested it, and realised that it too, is fried.

TOTAL LOSSES = $320.

THE DIFFERENCE = Most guitar pedal power supplys are NEGATIVE tipped. Positive tip supplies will usually fry them.
Gearnuts like you (not me) probably know these things. I do now know these things. It turns out that positive tip supplys are usually for fax/answering machines, not guitar pedals (and I.T d!cks are usually for computers, not guitar pedals).

THE MORAL = Never use a power supply that isn't specifically bought for pedals and supplied specifically for that pedal (you probably already knew that). Even if the voltage, ma, DC readings are correct, you cannot power most pedals on positive tips rather than C-Neg tips, and you certainly cannot power a guitar pedal on the good intentions of I.T dicks.
