I hate that! Dial in a cool setting, then the next day you hate it. I think a lot of it for me is my amp being a bit screwy right now but still..

I have found that after playing through a fuzz, I like my clean tone less, when I switch back to it. Is it possible that the high frequency content of a fuzz desensitizes the ears temporarily? So you play a fuzz for a while, and find a good setting, and when you come back later, it's harsh sounding, because your ears have readjusted, and you get the full frequency spectrum.

that's a good possibility. i strongly believe that the reason why all the "Texas roots-based player" types have tones i don't like is that they're all pushing Fender tweed Deluxe circuits with the treble way up and as such can't hear anything in the top end any more. this is of course even worse when you get into my age group.

Goblins are a definite possibility
as is adjusting ears
I have noticed because I am a basement jammer that temperature seems to have an impact on things as well I know if effects some pedals (analog delays Germs and such) plus I take my hat off which I think filters all the harsh frequencies. in the future everyone who hears me play will be required to wear a hat

I wear magic shades to eliminate any uncool sound derailing because of them drunk and disorderly goblins. Learned it by experimenting in studio sessions. Tried and true cure for the problem.

You have to sacrifice more to the Fuzz Gods.
Usually people either drink and get stoned or buy more fuzz pedluls to appease the Fuzz Gods. You are free to do both as well.

Cue to late period Entwhistle trying to find his high end by cranking the ever-loving shit out of it.
