Long story short:
My youngest brother who passed away 3 years ago was a world class wrestler, bronze medalist and a high school wrestling coach.
He took a school that had never won a single match to first place in the state in 2 years.
He used to joke that being an AB school, half his wrestlers were super smart geeks and the other half gang bangers.
All his wrestlers graduated and many went on to college.
Several to M.I.T., 1 Air Force Academy, 2 Naval Academy, 1 Coast Guard Academy, 2 West point as well as a couple to Harvard and Yale.

Yeah, I heard about this in the news.
Wrestling is definitely not the most glamorous sport, but how can they cease to have it as an Olympic sport?
That's so ashame.

Wasn't it one of the first olympic sports?

Yeah, when you think of the Olympics, you think of wrestling, pentathlon, decathlon and stuff like that. Even if they're not currently the most popular.

I signed the petition and wrote a really impassioned message which I kinda wish I copied over here. I really believe that the olympics should be about the spirit of fair competition, which I think is embodied by amateur athletes competing with amateur athletes from around the world. I think that including professionals has degraded the spirit of the event, and I feel that wrestling really embodies the spirit which I wish was still present; endeavour and competition, when wrestling is not a lucrative professional sport with (and I think this is crucial) no event which is more important than that sport's olympic competition.
Sorry about your brother man, I think wrestling is a cool sport and it's really sad that they're cutting it.

I don't understand how you can justify cutting one of the core sports of the Olympics when other sports that are dominated by professionals or judged subjectively are kept in. But hey, ribbon twirling brings in ratings and half of the US is too homophobic to view wrestling as a legitimate sport, and it's all about money these days. I can't tell you how many times I've seen the "who wants to see two grown sweaty men roll around on a mat together" argument and wanted to punch someone in the face.

Wow, I don't know how I'd cope with people using homophobia to reason with that. Who wouldn't like to see that? You definitely phrased my point more concisely. Shit like football and tennis being in the olympics is a travesty which kinda ruins the appeal of the entire event to me.

Did you guys watch the wrestling for last years Summer Olympics? They only showed two of the final matches on NBC or whatever it was they were broadcasting it on here. Meanwhile, they showed every gat damn dive from every gat damn diver for every gat damn diving event.
