heres the tank from my randall
the problem was if the knob was moved off zero
even a smidge
sounded like static built up
then boom
sounded like it was kicked real hard

notice in this picture
the stack of metal "shims"
looks like its making contact
with the metal foil
ive never opened a tank before
is this normal or is it the problem

took the last one of make and model

thanks
will subscribe to this
and appreciate any help

Never seen anything like it. Might be the secret Dumble Revurble circuit. Irreplaceable, and unfixable once opened.

(If you haven't alread) I'd say to run through the basics of checking to see if there's any obviously loose/disconnected wires, because it might be something small somewhere on it.
The static sound might be a bad connection in there somewhere, so when a sound runs through the amp, it's putting a charge across the springs, and the boom might be the charge dispersing on the cage, or acting like a magnet and connecting, then floating.
But, honestly, I have no idea. Hopefully someone here knows a bit more about reverb tank innards.

Tanks are really very simple... Check for a loose connection and also check the wires that it hooks up to in your amp... There really isn't much to in there to go wrong except some solder joints...

What happens when it's unplugged and you turn up the verb on your amp???

Foodball.
Yeah with the tank disconnected it still makes the awfulz. Footswitch cable in the jack silences it but does not produce da verbz.
