Is it only Southern folks doing this for good luck or is this done all over? I am betting it's a Southern Thang.

I got mine cooking, I didn't feel like messing with Ham Hocks or Hawg Jawls so I just put a bunch of awesome BACON in mine. I am letting mine cook slow and long (TWSS). Making corn bread, rice and greens to go along with this tasty dish.
I know Blooghost is doing this too (has to or he gets kicked out of Alabama). What about you Sousa?

Yep, black eyed peas for luck, collards for money, and lots of pork to season luck and money with. In spite of all these things, it's a wonder that I haven't been kicked out of the state already. It almost happened when I nearly got arrested for wearing a black hoodie at night. Then there was that halloween where I put on the corpse paint and filmed myself burning a torch in my back yard. My Baptist neighbors wouldn't even look at me for a month.

We're cooking black eyed peas today-- hoppin' John'-- along with pan-fried pork chops, and corn bread.

Dessert is homemade vanilla ice cream that I made last night. It's the good stuff that I can only make once a year. It requires raw eggs so I use pasteurized eggs, which are only sold during... uhh... egg nog season.

I actually googled the significance of this whole black eyed peas thing. I still kind of don't get it. Sounds like a bunch of weird traditions I wouldn't get because I hate the south. No offense, but fuck you Texas, Florida, Texas....yea... Tennessee, other south bound places.

God I hate the fucking south sooooooooo hard. I've been to Florida and Texas so many times I fucking hated it so much. Not so much the weather, but the drivers and the people and the food and the fat people. LOL! I'm on a rant because I'm hyper...sorry. I know I just offended like half this message board. I live in Kansas though...so I'll go milk a cow now.
