Disregard the website, but interesting read. COuld be the end of GC, MF, and even Harmony-central. Maybe the small stores can rise up again?

VERY interesting read. Only thing I've used GC for in the past few years is swapping failed Monster cables...only guitar store in my life I couldn't get out of fast enough.

While reading, when the business style of GC was described it matched my experience at Staples perfectly, which was also bought by Bain Capital, which is also failing.

huh. interesting. i always pictured musician's friend being the parent to guitar center, not the other way around. never looked into it. wonder what'll happen w/ their online sales... biggest online retailer of music gear in the world, isn't it?

it's pushing the point to blame Bain for GC's problems...GC has been in trouble for a long time now. when Gibson's financial status was an issue a few years ago, one problem noted was that GC owed Gibson millions and millions of dollars for gear advanced against future sales which was in esse an unrecoverable debt. i've read claims that FMIC (Fender Musical Instrument Corporation) is similarly exposed, and i expect they're not the only ones. perhaps the real question isn't what'll happen to GC/MF/M123 et al., but rather what the impact will be on Gibson, FMIC, Roland/BOSS, and the other manufacturers, and closer to home how this will affect the small manufacturers/builders who have been making inroads at GC more recently.

Every once in a while, if GC carries something I'm interested in, I'll go in, try it out, and find it online for cheaper.

... hey wait a minute...
