How Do You Feel About Stealing?

Is it always wrong or always OK? Is it ever justifiable?
Is there a difference in stealing medication from your Grandmother and taking a grape from the produce section of the Supermarket?
What if Guitar Center has a 10% off code and when you type it in it mistakenly takes 100% off?
What if the same thing happened at Prymaxe? at Fuzzhugger?
What if the IRS adds a ZERO to your tax return?
What if you pay with $10 and get change for $20?
What if it's an idea and not something physical?

You could argue about it, but if we're gonna build an utopia, stealing would be = taking without permission, buuuuuut, people would share more so stealing would be a thing of the past anyways. a LOT of people have lots of stuff they don't use, like, ever, and a lot of people could be doing wonderful things with that stuff, instead, the potential of them is locked away in some basement.
so.. share! ^^
my first bass is at my friends house, I gave it to him so he can learn to play it. I think he stopped playing it so I'll give it to another friend that wants to play it. I won't lose a thing, and they'll gain a lot ^^ me happy.

I enjoy stealing, man. It's just as simple as that.

I stole a pen from Walmart when I was like 4 or 5. Felt guilty about it ever since.

not taking other people's stuff is one of the basic agreements necessary for humans to live together.

To me it's always wrong. Justifying it just enables one to live with him/herself.

I don't have much sympathy for thieves. Especially not in the Western Civilized welfare states.
Unless they're really stealing for hunger /family. Something.

It's always wrong, but there are definitely degrees of wrongness. And I've been guilty of it in the past too, so I'm also a big stinking hypocrite. The times I've done it are more of the "getting back more change than I should and not saying anything" variety, but that doesn't make it right, just less wrong. There have also been times I've had the opportunity and decided to do the right thing. So who knows.

I don't really believe in 'property' per se, but I believe that there is enough of everything for everyone's needs. Needs are one thing, wants are another. Sharing is the key to all welfare.

I hate thieves. But I also steal music all the time. I try to make up for it by buying the albums I really like, but there's really no justifying it...it's still stealing.
Never stolen a physical object though.

I think just taking people's stuff is always wrong.
If a big box store gives me back too much change, I'll keep it. If it's a small place, I won't. The chances of me noticing are pretty slim either way, though.
One time, I canceled an order at Smallbear and they sent me the order anyways, and I told them about it so I could send their stuff back. But, when I sent a camera in to get it fixed, they shipped it back with a new battery and I didn't bother with anything past "w00t! free battery!" I also kinda just dropped the camera, and sent it in just saying it was broken without any more details. Dunno if they would have fixed it under warranty otherwise. I don't necessarily think that's "right", but I'd be lying if I said I felt any kind of guilt.
I do download music sometimes, or just get it on Youtube or something. Which I also don't think is right, but I couldn't afford much of it anyhow. I do try and go to concerts and buy merch to make up for it, which is really just paying for one thing instead of another...
So, yeah. I dunno. There's obviously different levels, but I never really think it's "right." It's just not enough to break my guilt threshold.

Spunky reminded me of a couple additional addendums to my previous post. I agree with him that my reaction to "getting free shit or too much change" thing totally depends on the business. If its some huge fucking corporation, fuck them. If its mom&pop or an online retailer I like, I speak up. There have even been times I spoke up to a business about it, and they just told me to keep it anyways.
And yes, I download music. However, I anything I like, I buy. For bands where it's just one or two songs I like, I keep them and delete the rest. If I don't like it at all, I delete it. Period. I don't know why I think that's principled, but i sleep at night.
