so long story short i was daydreaming about ways to have certain effects on certain strings of the guitar, which is complicated enough. then i started thinking about it in terms of high and low registers and less about the strings. so what i came up with is what i will call the "frequency splitter"...

basically, signal comes in and you have a knob that determines the frequency at which the signal splits. everything above this point goes to one output, everything below goes to another. kinda like a filter, but instead of rolling off the frequencies above (or below) the cutoff, you send them to a separate output.

knowledgable folks: is this feasible? does this already exist (a cursory search says "no")? is this a solution to a problem that does not exist?

I don't know about a pedal version that would work well enough but what you're looking for is generally called a crossover.

You're describing a crossover, and yes it exists, although usually in rack form. My band uses a dbx 223 crossover in our PA to send the lows to the subwoofers and the highs to the mains.

yep, that is pretty much exactly what i was thinking about. that rolls even has level adjustment for the high and low outputs.

oh, is that little thing ever hip. i'll bet it'll be ideal once i get my two-amplifier stereo setup happening. i want to do a project with just me and a drummer where i can generate bass lines along with my guitar playing, and splitting the bottom strings into a octave doubler post-crossover would be just the trick.

I've definitely seen some builders make crossover splitters but I can't remember who right now. Probably most builders here would do it for you, unless I'm wrong about how difficult it is.

yeah, but i kinda wanted to not split up each string. the crossover nails it... high notes (no matter what string they are on) go here, low notes go there.

Yeah, I think six outs is a little overwhelming too, but I want to try it anyway. The possibilities must be endless!
And it's a good way to justify having at least six fuzzes too

There's that big bottom that tym guitars makes but its pretty pricy for what it is...

It's been the main tool on my pedalboard for years as it is key in the way I write tunes and play them... I use to have a Paralooper from Moosapotamus and the below will replace it (soon hopefully, but he's been working on it for a while):



Top row is for part A (highs) of the signal, next row is part B (lows), bottom row is if you return all part of the signal into the pedal instead of going to 2 separate amps.

I use to dream of the hexaphonic when I was a kid...didn't know it's a reality now...awesome!

this is what im workin on at the moment as well
im usin the stereo outs of the ps 6
one to a peavy bass amp with the ad9
the other through delaylab into randall410
i know im kinda just hoping that the bassamp
will pump out the lows
and the randall will do the highs
but i didnt know somethin like this existed
or think of usin equalizers, at least one to the bass amp
im leavin for space in few minutes
