Audio-Technica ATH series.
There are several different models so just get what's in your price range.

It's been 3-4 years, and I still love my ATH-M40fs.

$69 at Sweetwater, which is about what I paid for mine.

I've loved my ATH-M50s for a few years now, but after using other headphones for a while while I replaced the plug that I broke (totally my own fault), I can say that I agree with the reviews that they're definitely a bit colored. They also used to be like $50 cheaper. There's some Sennheiser and Shure stuff around the same price that's supposed to be pretty good, though. And there's always the Sony MDRs.

Thanks for the suggestions! I did try some audio technicas and was really impressed. Then I tried a pair of shures. There was a big difference in the equivalent price range, the shure's definitely were better. I tried a pair of the $99 audio technica's and there wasn't a noticeable difference, so I decided to just save some change. I'm happy with the decision, but definitely appreciated the input, it gave me a great starting point.

these are what I went with: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SRH240A?utm_source=none&utm_medium=PPC&utm_campaign=none&gclid=CJCUseu_uLICFWdxQgodxHcAJQ
