Looking for Online Collaborators for a Writing Project
Posted: Fri Sep 07, 2012 6:48 pm
So, alexa. and I got to talking, and we've written up a manifesto for a book idea. We're both really jazzed about it, but we need more people to get into it. The idea is to write a book with multiple authors that is written in a stream-of-consciousness format.
Here's the guideline's we've written up.
Now, we're looking for other people that might be interested in joining this. I think the book can be passed around via a facebook page, but we can figure that much out when we've got people that are good to write. If we get any more than 4 more people, we just plan on using roll-dice-online.com to select the next person. Even if you're not much of a writer, feel free to join in.
If you're down, post a response, and if you want, include a signature symbol like the ones we dropped in at the end.
Here's the guideline's we've written up.
Guidelines for Collaborate Stream Of Consiousness Book
Each author has a font/colour that represents him.
Interjection into other writers contributions is allowed, provided you use the font/colour that you have chosen to represent yourself.
Consistency among sections is not requiered, but prefered. This is a collective stream of consciousness project. Everyone's mind works differently and who you are is important.
Feel free to ask questions, share opinions and views, whatever comes-to-mind.
Writers from section to section are chosen at random, based on the number assigned to you and a die roll by the previous section's author. A pass on writing is not prefered, but possible, provided the person passing also rolls. When you roll your designated number, you get to choose who's up next yourself.
And you don't have to pass, you can just talk about thinking about passing it. Literally just write whatever's on your mind.
The prefered format is a dialog format, but you are free even to talk to yourself, whatever feels right to you. As if you were speaking to someone and just letting your mind wander.
Try not to do what I just did above, and edit other people's sections in minor ways, for spelling or for word choice. Part of stream of consciousness is that those are just aspects of a person's writing. Contributions should be additive, not revision. In addition to that, try not to change someone else's font/color for a laugh. (but you can quote the part they wrote and change it for a laugh, laughs are good) Color switching within your own writing is also not permitted. Bold/Itallics/Underlines/Capitalization are the tools for expression here.
You are also not limited to the standard character set, but should try to stick to items that can be viewed easily on other computers (bad characters will read as a block, and can interupt the flow of reading by other authors). If you have a question regarding this, feel free to ask.
Write for the fun of it, write cuz it makes you feel good. Don't worry about opinions and thoughts, they're just opinions and thoughts. Keep in mind, that the way you write is simply an expression of your feelings at the time, and is who you are. Be who you are.
Choose a sign/symbol/a sequence of symbols that represents your signature. When you finished writing your thoughts down, put your signature down at the end of your paragraph.
Don't revise what you've already written, as this changes the flow of the stream. Editing after your signature is not allowed, except for fixing typos, and only if the paragraph has not been shared/signed yet. Grammatical and spelling errors are preferably left how they are. Mistakes aren't to be taken as mistakes, but part of the content of the project.
Again, if there are any questions regarding what's okay and what's not, feel free to ask. This is a collaborative effort, and each member's input is equally valuable.
