Just finished recording & mixing my band. Heavy\Post Rock -

I've been recording my band for the last month and I just finished mixing it (short 35mins, 5 songs)
I'm probably going to tweak it some more in a few days after resting my ears, forgetting how it sounds and getting some feedback.
does I<3Fuzz wanna give me some feedback? I'd really appreciate it.
the more criticism the better.
specific things, general things
I've lost my bearings on whether or not the mix is too claustrophobic,
I figure at 35mins people can hold their breath until it finishes

download:asdfasdfdead link. edit: try this new one Sept 10 http://www.mediafire.com/?uxc4kfo9072hkor
watch out there's a volume jump after the intro at 2:40,
it's pretty much peak volume at that point, no other shockers.

here's a pic of me behind my laptop tracking the drums

that's not where I practice. It's where we tracked the drums. The other guitarist is the chief lighting engineer at a venue and he got us in there overnight to use the space. It's a really nice modern stage, but it might have been too big but it sounded better then our actual practice space for tracking drums. All the other stuff was tracked at the practice space because the space it didn't matter with close micing.

I've tweaked the mix a bit
maybe this time I can get some feedback?

it's a mix in progress, so no SC... it's more of a download in confidence  ?
it's not mastered or anything either.

Oh man... :wha?: :!!!: :wha?:

The whole thing is Great...

The only critique is that the highs are sometimes too spread or paned and not up front... Maybe that's intended but overall; WHEN CAN I BUY AN LP???

wow thanks for the feedback.
I'm going to a friends house with a different system tomorrow and hopefully I'll see what's up with the high frequencies, I've heard a few comments about it already.
no LP for sale yet obviously, but it's in the works. A pressing is a priority. and as you can probably already tell the tracks are laid out for two 17:30 sides.

I think it's too linear... everything seems at the same level... need more punch.
Not my type of music... but that's well done. :thumb:

Guitars sound a bit distant to me. If it was me I'd try cutting the bass on them a bit and bringing the volume up to compensate.

mixing is something that can get drawn out and take forever... today was my personal deadline. so i'm done, and it's done.
I'm pretty happy with how it is now, spending more time on this is also going to drive me nuts, and
tweaked it some more. added some overall microdynamics so the entire mix isn't at the same level everywhere... hopefully it's more punchy!?

Not sure what's going to happen for mastering... I've got a mastering chain on there right now, I'm not sure how much of it is 'part of the mix' and how much I should remove to let the mastering guy do his thing.
that chain is looking something like this:
Analog summing plugin > EQ for mids > EQ for highs > Analog summing plugin > Cytomic Glue Compressor >Reverb >
MidSide EQ > Analog summing plugin > SSL Compressor > Maximiser limiter

I think everything up the the Reverb is pretty essential to the mix, and even the MS EQ after is just cutting the lows from the side channels (doesn't affect the kick or bass since they're centered), and the SSL compressor is hardly compressing, just gluing the reverb in and doing some pleasant toneshaping, maximiser/limiter is just trimming some transients and boosting the mix by 5dB,
any tips on what I should remove to send to various mastering dudes?

also, here it is for listening, final mix!

Sorry but I have no input other than "damn that's some good music, thanks for giving it up to the community". You need to let us know when it's available to pay for.
Really excellent work, looking forward to listening to it on the loud system tomorrow at a more reasonable hour.
