Ignore the Dave Grohl-wannabe dude, pay attention the mandolin.

I prefer my mandolins with eight strings.

Yeah. There's quite a few acoustic-electric 8-string mandolins. I'm going to pick one up to learn, eventually. And then play jigs with FUZZ.

Don't even joke. I've got a resonator mandolin and've been wanting to put a contact mic on it.
(I thank you for starting this thread, BTW.)

Oh, I know you're not, but I've been thinking of adopting mandolin as my primary instrument.
Well, OK, probably not mandolin, but mandola or mandocello.
Anybody play drone music on the mandolin?

I have the Fender A-style acoustic/electric mando. I totally dig it. And yes, it sounds awesome through fuzz and other fx. I had a clip up here at some point when I ran the mando through a bunch of fuzz and my flanger hoax. I'll try to find it.

Well, Warren Ellis plays a tenor guitar from Eastwood, and he gets pretty crunchy with it. It's kinda like a big mandolin?

Well, mandola and tenor guitar use the same tuning.

Here it is. Not really playing anything, just banging away on chords.

Thanks, BCBC, sometimes that's the best way to play a mandolin. They're pretty powerful for such small instruments.

mandolins are fun as heck if you can get past the ludicrous string tension.
gots me an acoustic/electric i haven't whipped out in a long-ass time. might wanna give it another go since i gave up dreams being the next Chris Thile and can just do my own thing and not do ludicrous hyperspeed runs all the time.
also its not illegal to downtune them, so why havent i done that

I dropped mine down a whole step. Thinking about detuning further. Resonator makes mine SRSLY loud.

We played with a noise band called Buoyant Sea, and the lead fella played a Tele shaped mandolin into a shit ton of fuzz.
Phenomenal!
