Apparently I'm supposed to book shows.....

So it has fallen upon me, so to speak, to try and book cooler shows at the local "venue" my friend runs. It's a cool little hole-in-the-wall, weirdo type venue, or what passes for one in these parts. I'll start off with a funny little story.

So tonight, I played a noise show with a friend of mine, and between bands we were chatting with said "venue-runner." He walks up to me and says, "Jeff, I want you to book some cool bands" (basically). He says, "I want you to get Sleep to play here." Then I realized that he was being kind of serious. It was hard not to laugh in his face. I probably stared a second, because he's not THAT into metal/doom/noise type stuff, and he probably didn't realize what he was saying. It might be worth a "funny" try, but damn near impossible.

SOOOOOOO......I thought I would throw this out to you guys. I'm in Fort Collins, Colorado. You may have heard of it recently because there's a gigantic forest fire right next to us at the moment. But it will go away eventually. We want more cool bands to play. Any kinds. So if you're in Colorado, and you want a place to play, PM me, or look for GNU: Experience Gallery on facebook. OR if you want to take a road trip, are touring, or know people who want to book shows around here.

Thanks for at least reading my lame story. Hope to hear from someone. :hello:

I hope you find some bands to play at your venue.

Do touring bands pass by your way on their way to SLC or Denver?

not meaning to hijack yr thread, but what's entailed in booking bands? soon i'm going to be living in my school's music house. we used to have tons and tons of house shows but the people who booked most of them graduated. so like what, do you just email bands passing through the area, cross your fingers, hope people buy merch/donate 4 gas, and smoke them out/feed them when they get there?

Sometimes touring bands pass through here. This town used to get a lot more diverse and bigger acts, and a few of them still come semi-regularly. Helmet and The Melvins have played at the Aggie Theatre here in town a bunch of times. But those kinds of shows are far in-between. Over time the venues have gotten lamer and lamer, until finally my friend got his hands on a place and has been getting cooler ones to play. The lame managers at the lame venues are a detracting factor for some touring bands, I think.

Pretty much. Just make sure they're taken care of, and that you communicate really well what each party expects of the show, as far as any money exchanged, places to sleep, etc. Try not to let any idiots break or steal their things. Most bands willing to play house shows should be easy.

Make sure you have like every line of contact information. Several phone numbers, several email addresses, everyone's names (not just whoever is handling the planning), etc. I booked bands for a while at a small place in Downtown Boston. It is a terrible feeling when a band seems to drop off the Earth at the last minute and you can't even find out what happened.

This is true. I forgot about the Blasting Room. I guess none of them are in the vein of bands I really follow :idk:

If you or your band want to play up here, hit me up or look for GNU: Experience Gallery on facebook :hello:

I'll be sure to send anyone looking for dates in Colorado to ya! Always good to find other places to play.

I wish I lived where there was a noise scene :(

Shit if I lived anywhere close I'd come do a noise set, not that anyone would want to see it, but it'd be fun for me

I played a noise show with a friend of mine just the other night. I think there were like 7 people there, two of which were the "venue operators." It was fun though. If I had the moneys, I'd just take a road trip and play wherever would have me.
