How to quit a band

Alright guys, how have/would you quit a band? All bands up to my current one have split after a disaster/falling out between members but now I am in a band that is not satisfying me artistically enough to excuse driving eighty mins three times a week. I don't want to hang then out to dry but I also don't think giving then notice would be a great idea because I don't cherish awkward conversations and also the way the lead guy talks about exmembers kinda shows his inability to deal with people leaving. So, what do? Also he records guitar by plugins direct from guitar ino GarageBand, I had to onvince him to mic my amp blew my mind in the worst way.

Don't go to practice & don't return any of their calls/texts/emails?

Is this band playing out? Are there any gaps in the show schedule? Maybe pick a point whe there's a decent gap between shows, and quit then.
If they're not playing out, just up and do it.

Are you interested in staying friends with them? Just tell them either a.) your heart's not in it anymore or b.) you feel like you don't have the free time to devote to a band.
If you're not interested in staying friends, then just stop showing up. They'll get the hint sooner or later.

See, it's easy enough to ignore them, I would feel a bit weird about it though I guess I need to build up my "fuck em'" mentality.

Well, I'm always for giving 'em the honest truth if they're mature enough to handle it. Seems these guys (or at least that one guy) aren't.

I hear that, we have a few shows this month. after these I guess I can take a hybrid course of action and tell the bass player what's up bc he is actually a cool guy that I wouldn't mind jamming with again and let the other two know I'm not Gonna be showing up to practice anymOre via text.

Yeah, thanks guys. Guess I needed some opinions to see if there was some sort of unspoken protocol one should adhere to.

You're welcome. I think every situation is different and needs to be treated accordingly.

Why not just tell them that the drive is too much? Eighty minutes? You're probably spending as much in gas as you're making from the shows.

What if they offer to move to a closer practice space? (Not sayin' they would, but they might.)

Simply tell them that You're sorry
but You're at the moment excited about something completely different and You'll be concentrating on it, so sorry guys but You just can't compete with this one. And that's it.

You can also say that You can't be bothered with their material, if some band member insists You rub it in. Sometimes they do, because they want to make a number of anybody leaving their superb band.
There's been a few threads about leaving a band. Just use the search tool for more.

I know the singer, whose house we practice out of, will refuse, he wants rides to the shows because he is afraid to drive

. It is ridiculous to me.
