Yeah I watched it earlier.
It's interesting that the only thing the mom will contribute to society is her musical son.

Wow. Now I know how lucky I am that both my parents are musicians (hobbyists) that support me, not that. I feel really sorry for that guy. I hope his Mom was just in an extremely bad mood that day, and that this isn't a regular thing for him.

Apparently she's normally much worse. What a toxic, hateful woman.
The kid is only 17. Heaps of parents would be ecstatic to have an artistic son who plays music with his friends, rather than spending all his money & time on typical teenage stuff.. (girls, drugs, alcohol, junkfood, etc).

i dunno...if i had a roommate, let alone a kid, who was honking away on an Engl stack all day playing metal shit i'd tell him to get a practice amp or a set of cans. that's fuckin' ridiculous in a home environment.

... which would be a valid point, had she said "Turn it down." Alas, that's not how it played out.
Also, he plays in a band that apparently plays shows.

ugh.
Maybe it's just me, but I fucking love the sound of diminished runs. I find myself playing them all the damn time. It might be left over from when I played shred stuff in highschool, but damn. They sound so cool.
Edit: Watched the video. From this, she sounds like a mother who doesn't actually try to understand her son's likes. It sounds like her idea of what a high school age kid should be doing is exactly like most of the idiots in my hick town. "You're not enjoying youth, unless you're out socializing, drinking and partying."
I can't stand that idea, and I sympathize with that kid, a lot. I played guitar religiously when I was 17. I would come home from the high school I didn't like, and play for 8 hours a night, not doing homework, and sometimes skipping dinner to keep playing.
I hope he doesn't let her get to him, and I hope she tries to figure out that he has a passion for something.

It's real easy to hate on that woman just on the basis of that short clip, but we don't really know what's gone on up until that point. There's a whole world of existence outside of when the video camera's rolling. That's just a tiny snapshot of their lives. The grand context is lost on us ... or perhaps, that clip may give a brief summary of the entire story.

I have to agree with that. I was trying to base what I said on the context of the video, but it sounded like something else was going on as well. I have to say that I kind of feel bad for her. She's obviously frustrated (over
something), and now she's getting internet hate, which can't be good for one's self esteem.

I agree with that. I'm lucky to have great parents, but if you put their worst moments on youtube, people (especially internet people) would probably think they are awful. But it is also entirely possible that she is a mean mom.

Yeah, that's totally lame.

Flash backs….
From the comments about contributing to society I’d say she thinks he should have a “real” job.
She didn’t bring up some overachieving friends kid to compare him with. Well at least not this time.
No Mom my idea of summer fun is not cleaning the fucking garage.
Sounds like mom issues in her life and uses him as an easy target to take out all her frustrations.
Maybe she’s going through that “if I hadn’t had kids or married this guy or had finished college etc. my life would be so much better” crap.
