This is probably just me but does anybody else feel guilty when selling gear?
I just sold my snowdrift and felt really guilty cause tom built it and he's such a nice guy!
Id only just told him a few weeks ago how much i like it but it wasnt getting used like it should.
i always think if its not getting used somebody else could use it and its silly to hoard??
Still felt guilty though :picard:

Not so much guilt as remorse. I'm get attached to things and I start to second guess whether or not it's worth it/if I'll miss having that gear.

But that doesn't happen very often, I really only sell/trade gear when I'm hardly using it.

I usually only mostly probably only kinda really only get rid of stuff when I think I'm not gonna miss it too much.

I feel guilty when I buy, not sell.

I feel guilty when I buy too. The only other time I feel guilty is when my girlfriend buys me a pedal as a gift and then however later I end up getting a different pedal that does the same thing except better, and then the pedal that she gave me gets pushed to the side...

there are certain things that i've felt bad about selling because they were really nice and i didn't think i'd given them a proper opportunity to work their way in, but they didn't fit what i do and i needed the money for other things. i particularly felt bad about selling the Epiphone Wildkat and the Truly Beautiful Disaster. the Wildkat was a lovely guitar, but it just wasn't the right P90 guitar for me and so i flipped it so i could buy the Tokai LP Special, which IS the right P90 guitar for me. and i needed food more than the TBD's feedback loop; i may well get another TBD someday, because it was fun.

I know that guilty feeling you're talking about. But gear needs change with different focuses, bands, etc...expenses come up...other gear purchases become more important. I especially feel that guilt when I know the builder, or have personally told them how great their pedal/guitar is, and then I have to sell. I worry they might see it on my ebay page or on a BST forum...So it's natural. (And every builder should empathize and understand!) And there's also that feeling where I realize I might need to buy one of these again down the road, but I've got to sell it for now.

So yeah. We're all in this together.

Yes, Tom Dalton, and some of us are in it more than others.

I feel guilty while the new thing is being shipped or being built...that whole waiting period....once the new thing comes in, I'm all like "fuck you old thing....and your mother, too."

I also get "Seller's Remorse." It's odd, usually I'm selling old gear to get better gear, but even then I feel strange about selling an old piece of gear, anything I've gigged with has some sentimental value, in some way.

That's a big thing, when I sell something really cool it's normally to satisfy curiosity, or because I'm bored, I don't feel that guilty because I can always just buy a new one later? :idk: Not being able to get another later is why I don't know if I'd ever sell my jag though. Not because I couldn't get another jag  but because it's a sort of old MIJ, meh, probably more sentiment than anything else.

I've definitely had that guilty feeling liiiike every time I've sold a pedal, but so far none of the builders have hunted me down...I think... :erm:

Yeah, guilt both ways.
Buying: I don't really need this...
Selling: I might need this sometime...

i think i won't ever have anything built for me again, because i haven't felt more guilty than when i sold my custom Green Muff by MadeByMike (currently hopefully still within the ILF family) :-(
