Yeah, sooooo what are some good earplugs? Or at least cheap, decent ones?

Where do you get earplugs? What do you look for?

I'm just an earplug noob, and I figure I should get to know them at some point.

I'm gonna grab a pair, as we moved to a smaller prctice space and Ihave been meaning to get some.

If you have the money, you can't beat Etymotic, but it's a process, you have to go get a mold from an approved specialist or whatever. My audio production professor uses them, and he says his have lasted 5 years so far, and they keep your molds so you can just re order without getting a refit. Looking at about $100 though.

I use these guys. I mainly use them for playing in a no-monitor situation (which I love).
I usually still let my ears get blasted out at shows.

I use custom fit Westone ES49s.

Cost me $150, including a full hearing test from an audiologist, with 15dB filters. Westone screwed up and sent me a second pair with the 25dB reductions, but I only ever need the 15s. Also, I use clear, because I don't want to look like I have something goofy living in my head.

I have generic earplugs from walgreens in my basement for my friends to use, they block 27 decibels, which is nice. But you can only use them a handfull of times. I also have a pair of Hearos earplugs that are for swimming but I use them for myself when I play, they rule. Their $5 for a pair, I think. I would go to your local pharmacy or drugstore and just see what they have. Also cotton works kinds, as well as wax. Also those goofy ones that drummers wear, although goofy, they do work.

There has been a couple threads pertaining to this very topic, may be some useful stuff in there.

I'd remembered the importance of earplugs thread, and the other 2 popped up. hopefully, that helps! :D

I've been using Sensaphonics (ER series) a little over a year now with great results. Set up an appointment with an Audiologist, get fitted for a pair. Went through many one-size types... meh. I can actually hear everything better now with these "filters" in. Best $ I've spent on gear.

Ears are our most Important tools.
