I'm going to staying in Manhattan for a week this coming March and I'm going to have a lot of free time during the days.
This is my first time going to NYC, so let me know of any cool shit you think I should check out.

Art stuff, music stuff, food stuff (casual or fancy), stuff stuff, etc.

METROPOLITAN, GUGGENHEIM, MODERN, WHITNEY. In that order.

MOMA is a must-see. Guggenheim is worth the trip just for the architecture. 30th Street Guitars was my favorite shop on Manhattan, and I went to a bunch. Matt Umanov Guitars is pretty cool too.

Go to Greenwich Village, walk around Washington Square, check out the shops and cafes and bars....

2. Get chick drunk
3. Smash with power of Thor

For shows, just check ohmyrockness.com. They list pretty much every show at every venue for every day.
Food stuff, go onto the food network website, and they'll tell you everywhere good.

Whenever I've found myself in Manhatten with time to kill, I've just wandered around the subways listening to buskers. There are some entertaining motherfuckers down there.

+1 on the MOMA if that's your bag.

and if it's not, you should probably get a new fucking bag.

If you like coffee, go to bluebird coffee on houston street and avenue B. by far the best coffee shop in the city. Ludlow guitars, which has an amazing selection of pedals, is only a few blocks away. Also a lot of cool clubs in that area.
Take the L to williamsburg, some cool thrift shops there. Got a handmade peacoat for 28 bucks. Oasis is a really good middle eastern place right outside thew bedford avenue station, and it's cheap as tits.
Murphy's cheese in the west village has mad good cheese just, just sayin
Going for a walk with 20 bucks in your pocket is my general idea of a good time. Find a good coffee place, just explore. Best places as a whole would be the villages, soho, tribeca, basically all the more liberal areas.

There may be a cheese shop named Murphy's, but I don't know it. Murray's is the famous one. They've got great gobs o' cheese.

Cheese is my favorite. I shall definitely be going there.
MoMA is most likely going to happen.
I like the idea of wandering so I shall hit all those spots mentioned if I can.
