D.I.Y. Touring

Who is doing it? Any tips? How about putting our heads together and help each other out. We could recommend venues, let the people on tour know what to expect at the venue, help set-up shows and play together, maybe help people find a place to crash, etc.
I know my band is going to do a few short jaunts this summer. It would be cool to play with some ILFers. I am in Gainesville, Fl. A great college town to play in. The worse part is when bands are touring in the summer, town isn't as full as when spring or fall semester is happening.
Anybody else down to see how we can help each other?

Allegedly my band's touring this summer, first half in San Francisco bay area, and second half in LA. If they haven't kicked me out by then.

We've got a fair amount of New Englanders here. I'm always down to throw out venue recommendations, town lowdowns, gear lending and things like that.

Hmm. I hope more people chime in. I am sure we aren't going to really get out of the SE.

i find that venues are not a big deal.. generally they can be pretty easy to find. the problem is getting an awesome band (that isn't full of dicks) that draws a buncha people to play with you.
anyway, if you guys wanna play in New Brunswick, NJ... you can hit me up. the basement scene is taking off right now. the kids around here generally don't care for much other than punk, however.

Yeah I would say most important is what you said about playing with bands that have a good draw. Also not being on some crazy bill with an 80s cover band or something.

If you're ever in TX, hit me up, or contact 1919 Hemphill. It's the second oldest DIY venue in the nation, and it's one of the greatest places on earth.
The opinion on touring at least amongst bands in my area is "Once you get to the Midwest, you're fine". It's the trek up and back that sucks.

You'd be welcome in Atlanta, on the East side especially.

I can hook people up at places in Louisiana and SE Texas. Let me know if you're coming in. I won't take cuts. That's your touring money.

Yeah we always give our money to the touring bands too. Gonna definately take Sousa up on some NOLA action!
