So what makes you happy?

I know a bunch of dudes here like to surround themselves with various things in order to feel at peace, be it stuff from japan or art from tahiti. Whatever you dig, you are, to misquote the Dirty Three. So what makes you guys tick? What do you try to, or want surround yourself with?
Like, for myself, I really like old wood. Old things, things that have been around. I also dig minimalism. Most of the more bizarre art on my walls has been gifts and such, and as such will be kept but likely not hung when I have my own house, rather than renting one. I like simplicity and peace and things to be clean.
What do you guys dig?

1. Books are my main thing. I could run a library out of my apartment. I have book cases that are overflowing running from floor to ceiling across an entire wall.
2. Records. My collection is gradually coming along.
3. Instruments. Of all kinds, but mainly guitars. Even though I only rarely use a guitar other than my eight string, I enjoy adding to the collection.
4. Art (don't have the space right now to hang stuff up, but next place...)

i fucking hate old books. i cant get into it if the pages are all yellow and there's that residue that gets all over your fingers and can never be washed off the book. ugh. am also extremely opposed to the romanticizing of old books.
i like having my computer around.
and at least one of my guitars.

I also love weird and/or old things. My apartment is pretty minimally furnished but I have stuff like a barometer, a globe (as in Earth) bought at an auction, a porcelain elephant lamp, a blue chinese dog statue (like the one DiCaprio smashes in Total Eclipse), a "voodoo" candle (tourist kinda thing from New Orleans). My favorite is my grandfather's suitcase from like the '30s/'40s (he died in '51) which has stickers with "The Grand Hotel - Yokohama, Japan" and "Canadian Pacific - Ocean Services Limited". Looks like it came out of an old film. Also have his microscope (and I think top hat).
Lots of books (well, relative to apartment size).
Two amps, two electric guitars, one acoustic. Makeshift pedalboard. Two harmonicas. Drum practice pad. Currently trying to make room for a piano my dad doesn't want.

As a bachelor,....I hated clutter so I kept my possessions to a minimum.
I look around my house currently and it is full of knick knacks, books, crystals and I'm realizing it's mostly my wife's and I wouldn't miss 90% of it, but we have the space and I'm okay with her having them (I do love her crystal/mineral collection. Makes gift giving easy).
The things that make me happy are all in my shop and that is my Guitar, my Bass, my Pedalboard, my Amps and my tools (which I need more of and I do like old/vintage tools).
Beyond that,...a well outfitted, functional and spacious kitchen, a few sharp knives, a big and easily organized/well stocked refrigerator and a well stocked pantry.

Ugh, I hate knick knacks. My girlfriend puts stuff out on all the shelves, and on my book cases, and it drives me crazy. Every once in a while I go around and put all the stuff away, and then a day later it's all out again. I like clean empty surfaces.

To be fair,...most of those knick knacks are pendants, beads, cabochons and goblets that she had made when she was actively blowing glass. Some of it is stuff that she got of her family as well and some of it is really old and Scottish and I think that's cool, but I don't feel any sentimental attachment to them.
She also has some neat old artifacts (IE a old makeshift mortar and pestal, some carvings and statues,...some of them may be made to look old and sold as touristy shit and some of them may actually be old). She enjoys them so I'm happy to let her do so. As long as she attempts some sort of organization with them I can get past the hang up.
It was definitely a point of contention when we were apartment dwellers as there was absolutely no personal space,...but now that we live in a house it's easy to stay organized and keep everyone happy. If I had it my way we would still be doing a minimalist furnishing/decorating thing,...but I'm a husband,...which pretty much means that I usually don't get my way with such things.

The house must be key. We live in a 1 bedroom apartment right now. Only like 600 square feet or something like that.
