When there is that one pedal you want, and you trick yourself into thinking it will be the last one you want for a long time, and you want to buy it, you look at your bank account and realize how little money you have, you look at your pile of music equipment and realize your down to the bare essentials, you pace your room, dig through your closet and realize you have already sold everything worth anything to buy those bare essentials, and then you realize your next paycheck in full won't even cover what you're GAS'sing for....

I know, I know. My gear GAS list alone runs pretty long. I just sold a few pedals lately to buy new ones - and lose all the money when tax rate has gone up and they fall due.
For remedy I suggest alcohol. Or hard drugs if alcohol doesn't work any more. Self-harming and flagellation. Murdering defenseless animals. Wanton necrophilia. Something that will fuck up all tenderness and harden all Your feelings.

Though I believe the one and only thing that really helps is... playing all the sweet fuzz you've got.

I can honestly say that has never been a problem for me, about 90% of my gear money comes from other gear, only supplemented when it is absolutely necessary.

I don't like selling my stuff in general unless I know I'm going to replace it with something I like better.

On a serious note,...this is sound advice. Part of our family budget includes a gear fund for me (to offset the craft and clothes fund for her). Of course implementing the budget is a whole different story,...but we are going to attempt to be hella diligent on it starting on the new year.
The idea is that you take your entire income and earmark it towards each budget item (groceries, entertainment, car maintenance etc etc etc)....what you don't use out of each item at the end of the month goes into savings. I wanna alter it a little bit so that non priorities like gear and crafts are allowed to build up cash so that more expensive shizz can be purchased.

word. when i went through my major pedal acquisition phase, i bought a bunch of pedals, then started playing shows and realized i didn't use them that often...
so i kept trading until i got stuff i like, but seriously, playing shows is the best way to gauge whether you need or something or not

...depending a lot on what kind of music You play, and how inherent the pedal tap dance is to the riffs and licks.
But yeah, I've done most of my recording and gigging career thus far with only three to six pedals onboard, a bass with a good preamp and varying the playing techniques and touch.
