Are these not the folks who dress up standard leads and sell them at a ridiculous premium?

They have these out now.

$400 or thereabouts.

For that money, I'd get myself a very nice pair of Grados. Or four sets of Thinksound.

I had no idea these guys were breaking into the Headphone market. Did they do the Beats By Dre phones? Does anyone have a clue if they actually sound good?

They indeed made the Beats headphones that are quickly becoming ubiquitous on my college campus. Personally, I don't like them. They color the sound too much and are definitely geared towards the hip-hop/club DJ crowd.

They also make the Turbine earphones which have been well-received over at the Head-fi forums. I wouldn't be surprised if these are a derivative of the Turbines.

I tried to give a fuck, but I couldn't.

I'm sure they sound fine. They have the resources to make good sounding headphones...

... but I had an $80 pair of Senheisers that also sounded pretty great... (though the bass could have been tighter)

Sooooooooooooooooo.

Fuck Monster.

The cable company, not the energy drink. I like the energy drink.

But what am I going to do with my massive stockpile of ERS paper now?!
I guess I could stuff it in my ears, and also wrap it around the headphones. For the PUREST toans as nature intended.

When I worked at staples last summe we had a bunch of monster stuff. Everything of theirs was more than double the competing prices, only place I see their lead cables is Walmart.

Whenever the Monster Cables conversation crops up,...I like to direct people to this graphic, which is admittedly outdated as Monster has come down on their prices,...albeit still not competitive.

Then I like to point them to this article.

Lastly I like to bring up the "fact" that for a while they were using slightly oversized 1/4" plugs on their instrument and speaker cables. This may have been a QC issue or intentional but the result was essentially the bigger plugs were wearing out jacks to the point that only the slightly oversized plugs on Monster's cables were the only ones that would work on the slutified jacks. As far as I know Monster rectified that situation years ago and I will cop to not having any actual real world experience with this,...but seriously,...if those are more than mere rumors,...that's bullshit.

Last Christmas I had a $100 Best Buy gift card and as I was trying to get my pedalboard powered I figured I'd head up there and see what was available in terms of power strips,...hoping to find something compact to put on my board. The only viable options they had were Monster Products. I bought something else entirely instead (MK Multimedia iRig).

Even if Monster Cables are in the clearance bin at Guitar Center for cheaper than the equivalent Live Wire or competing instrument, patch or speaker cable,....I'll still pass on them.

Their headphones may be the bee's knees,....but I will never know since they aren't getting a dime out of me.
