Anyone here belong to a high IQ society?

Is there any practical value to being a part of one? Or is it just like an ego stroking thing? I'm just curious as to whether it's something that is actually worth doing. Is it something that's good for a resume at least, or something like that?

Examples:
Mensa International
Intertel
International Society for Philosophical Enquiry
One-in-a-Thousand Society
Triple Nine Society
Prometheus Society
Mega Society

Always seemed like pretentious ego wanking to me. :idk: Maybe they actually do things other than gather and discuss how great they are, I have no idea.

I was tested for one when I was younger, but I missed the cutoff by a few points.

Doesn't really bother me. What do you even do with MENSA? Talk about how big your brainpenis is?

I have no idea. I can't find any information to suggest that you get something out of any of these societies.

Like any other organization, the practical application is all in the networking.

There are huge problems with the IQ test (obviously), but being able to put "Certifiably not a dumbass" on any kind of application is also nice.

Futursailors was in Mensa or some shit as a lad. Outside of some "special" classes in school, I just got some invitations to nerd colleges that I couldn't afford out of it.

So, good for getting into college, and good for mooching off pretentious smart people.

And you can say 99% of people can eat your mental dick. :p

High IQ society? I didn't know there was such thing. Eh, still sounds like the kind of guys I laugh at in school for not being able to hold their arms above their head. Still, it would look awesome on a resume, I guess.

Saying you're in the Mega Society would probably kill at an interview. The qualification for being a member is an IQ of over 171 (1 in 1,000,000 qualify).

I took the Mensa "practice" test right after I graduated college. I scored in the "borderline" area, which means I might actually get in or I might not if I actually had decided to sit for the real test. It wasn't clearly a definite yes or no.

Never bothered with it after that one practice test. I suppose if I went to a local chapter meeting and it was a cool vibe, I'd consider studying up to pass. But then again, if you have to study to pass, it's probably not the group for you.
