Other people cannot be trusted with my music, but worse, I cannot be trusted with my music. The more I mix the more I learn, but I need more information.

I'm looking for anything that can expand my brain on the process of recording and mixing. Any magazines, websites, or books you could recommend will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

There's many a tutorial on everything from mixing, production, writing, theory, hardware, business. everything man. It's pretty cool.

That is pretty good. Mix is a really good magazine. Like all things practice, practice, practice! It takes a while. One thing is to start really listening to recordings. Really pay attention to where every thing sits. And listen at a different volumes, one good quick trick in doing a mix is to turn it down really low, almost off to "see" what is actually the loudest thing you have in your mix.

I'll look into mix magazine, maybe pick up a copy. that website is pretty damn cool. been cycling through articles. I won a contest a few months back that gave me this way overpowered (read: complicated) program to use that has the most horrible tuts. Samplitude 11. I got the just under a grand version with a shitload of plugins free, and I feel like a baby with it. I just use eqs and panning so far with it, but I know this thing can do so much more. but I will keep reading!

Start up a silly throughaway project, fuck with it and fuck with it and fuck with it. Actually try to break the program. Basically familiar yourself with how everything works, terminology ect. Really the more you use it at all the more it will make sense.

do you mix with a desk? or in the box

I mix in Samplitude, not on the recorder, if that is what you are asking.
