Time you've gone without playing a musical instrument of any kind? You dirty minded fucks! I know what you were thinking when you clicked this!
So I'm out of town right now doing Fire training (trying to be a Firefighter yo) and have already been gone for 7 days. I won't return home until next week on Saturday afternoon/evening. I didn't bring my bass (why damn it!), so I miss it severely. I miss it so much, that I'm thinking about making my own out of the junk lying around this place I'm staying at. Or banging on some trash cans like drums...you know...Anyway, what would you guys do? I mean besides the obvious. Study. I mean that's the reason I'm down here. A guy can't study 24/7 though (or can he?). I'm going fucking nuts!!!!!!! I want my fucking bass and my fucking TAFM and my fucking fuck!!!!!
Really I'se sad. I'se really, reallys sadsssssssss.....

Last trip to China was a little over 3 weeks with travel, didn't pick up a guitar, it made me crazy: I played alot of ball while I was there but had no real way to relax, I ended up making specific playlists on my computer for pretty much every situation, at least it was music

awww yeah... I feel your pain, dude... due to the flooded basement I haven't been able to play drums/guitar for weeks now.. and I won't be able to do so until late november. luckily I had luck and the drumset and guitar gear survived the flood.. only slight restoration was required.. and I have my little practice pad for drumming... BUT I'M NERVOUS AS FUCK AND BANG ON EVERYTHING I CAN FIND!!!! Even my teachers noticed that I'm not paying that much attention anymore and tend to get a little ADD from time to time... GOD I NEED SOMETHING TO DRUM ON GAHHHHHH!!!!
I had a stretch of about 3-4 years after college where I only played a handful of times. there were several months-long periods in there where I didn't play anything at all. the guitars just sat in the corner.

^ exactly this.
Now I play just about every day, for at least 15 minutes. And occasionally I even play with other people!

Since I started playing, probably a month when I went travelling last summer. It was super weird because I normally play for at least an hour every day.
Well, back when I started playing bass, after I learned the basics I only played a few times a month. About a year later I joined a band, and started playing a few times a week. 2 years after that I got a bass big muff and have played nearly everyday since. Longest I've gone without playing since then was when my school's tennis team went to state, I was without instruments for about 5 days.
during the period from 2002-2006 i was on a particular antidepressant one side effect of which was that it made me lose all interest in playing the guitar, though i still was kind of into playing keyboards. however, i didn't play them much, and would sometimes go for months without touching an instrument. it was kind of like David Pearce of Flying Saucer Attack...i couldn't function off the drugs but couldn't do music on them. i couldn't do jack shit musically till i switched to a different SSRI in 06; all of a sudden i wanted to play again, as if a light switch had been thrown.
most recently, after my gf/partner of 13 years left last month i didn't pick up an instrument for two and a half weeks...it would have been too much, because there was too much information to express.
