"You actually are hearing the song, the actual song, while you're playing along with it."
Guess what, fags. Grab your fucking guitar and sit in front of your goddamn stereo and FIGURE IT OUT.
"You don't have to drag your amp around... you can play it then and there straight through your game console."
Use your arms and pick up your amp, you fucking pussy. Play in a real band with your real friends with real music.
JESUS.
I play video games and I play guitar. Rock Band and Guitar Hero with the "clicky clack" buttons makes more sense than this. But things keep getting more "real" and more "real" and more "real". REAL REAL REAL. REEEEAAAAAAALLLL.

p.s. However... nice Double Cut Gibson Special with the P-90s, there.

I think this is an awesome learning tool. Seems like it would be a great way to learn how to play the guitar.

Biggest draw for me is I won't have to sit around and think of a song I want to play. Plus I'm not one to memorize well known riffs, or much music at all. I say "hey I wanna play ________" then I play half of it and I'm bored. With this, maybe some cool sounding songs would stick in my head.
Can I run my effects into the xbox??????????????????????????????????????????

Dude. Excellent satire. These are exactly the kind of brainless low-attention-span ephemera-loving talentless faggots to whom this shit is being marketed. Wait... are you being serious?

Fucked if I'm buying it.

As a learning tool, i see where it has merit. If you wanna learn popular songs and start a cover band while you're 13, this seems like the best idea in the world.
However, I don't think its going to catch on. Why you may ask? Because guitar hero and rock band have been put down by the music community so much, the only people to go for it will be the same people who bought rock band and guitar hero, but now you actually have to play and not hit 5 buttons? not gonna catch on

It'd be useful for learning the motions of playing guitar and building hand coordination I feel like, but nothing else.
Now, if it teaches me theory in a fun way while I'm doing it...

from what I've read the tracking is a little off, there is major latency when using the effects/amp modeling system. The difficulty is scaled not selectable, so you have to play through so much shit before it actually matches your talent. and for beginners it is constantly progressing rather than letting them learn. there is no focus on theory or even playing by ear. There is a "guitarcade" section that supposedly lets you drill scales and techniques which sounds interesting, but from the reviews of gamers who are also musicians (read: joystick's reveiw) sounds bunk. Bums me out because I was really excited for this one.
I don't get why people are angry about this game. If it is actually teaching people to play an instrument, I am all for it. Maybe if there was more people learning and playing music there would be a shift in how people view the arts as a whole right now. Optional. I don't think there can ever be too many people playing music, and I don't care how they started.

Intrigued but I lack a video game console. For $250 what else can I do with a PS3 that would be interesting? They'll play blu-rays right?
