Not fucked up in the way you're thinking, but he was basically the first Disney animator to break from the fold and start making commercially viable adult targetted animated films. Movies like Heavy Traffic and Coonskin are basically a characture of the nasty more graphic aspects of New York City from the unabashed, PC-less perspective of the '70's.

Vanishing Point. the original version from the 1970s, not the hideous 2000s remake. amphetamines captured on celluloid, loaded into a Dodge Challenger and driven across the desert as fast as possible. Primal Scream made an entire album themed on this film.
Zabriskie Point. Michelangelo Antonioni takes on 1968 via a hallucinatory swoop through demonstrations, demolitions, and Death Valley.
Change of Habit. Elvis Presley plays an Albert Schweitzer-esque doctor doing charity work in Africa with defrocked nun/nurse/love interest Mary Tyler Moore. the ending is nothing less than the Apotheosis of Elvis. must be seen to be believed. Elvis' last film.

Most of Von Trier's films, and about half of the Dogme flicks I've seen come to mind first. Especially Julien Donkey Boy. Herzog has a spectacularly creepy cameo:
