INXS with the replacement singer.

the virtual Elvis show where his backing band plays while they show footage of him performing on a screen and the band plays to the tape. this has actually toured. in arenas.

the Eagles. they were a horrible live band in the 70s--infamously, the only thing not overdubbed on <i>Eagles Live</i> was the crowd noise--and come on, they're the fucking Eagles.

and then there's the one-member- or only-the-rhythm-section-left bands you see on the county-fair circuit or, here, in the free concerts at the beach series: "Gregg Rolie of Santana," "Mickey Thomas' Starship," "Creedence Clearwater Revisited," etc. or the Gin Blossoms, still caning it 20 years after they drove the founder and songwriter to suicide by firing him for alcoholism just before New Miserable Experience came out and fucking him out of his share of the band.

the pixies reunion tours were terrifically disappointing

stones and the who were both pretty dodgy when i went but i knew that anyway

I'd love to see Garcia/Homme/Reeder/Bjork play some shows, but by all accounts he's the one with absolutely zero interest in it. Oliveri's great, but I just want him back in QOTSA/learning how not to beat up women.


Reunion tours are pretty tricky beasts, though. I have no problem with bands reuniting for the cash, as long as they're also enjoying themselves. Dunno who I'd nominate for worst.

my only objection to band reunions/tours is when they result in poor-quality music. for example, when Gong got together for the fan convention in Amsterdam in 2006 it was fantastic, because everyone came to play. the current post-Grateful Dead projects are heartbreakingly dreadful because they're just going through the motions. My Bloody Valentine killed on the reunion tour: it's there on the concert tapes. the question is, can a band, as P-Funk once so aptly put it, take it to the stage?
