Apparently England is under martial law because the kids are destroying everything. Anybody talking about this?

I think it says something that one of the few businesses that wasn't looted and torched was a book store.

Shit's absolutely mental over there.

Depending on who you're listening to, it's either inevitable backlash from the socially ostracized, or a result of a kind of Rodney King 2.0 situation (cops killed a black guy), or a bunch of people taking advantage of what was a ridiculously relaxed police response.

martial law now, huh. i hadn't heard that. damn. was that even true in Northern Ireland?

i've never understood why people think it's a good idea to go out and tear up the areas they live in (not that it's a good idea to fuck up someone else's neighborhood, but more often than not people trash their own hood in a riot)...all you're doing is making sure you don't have anywhere to buy groceries, asshole.

At the risk of oversimplification--yeah, that's probably a large part of it.

I suppose if you're situation is already pretty shitty, then you have nothing to gain. But yeah, it all just seems very short sighted and greedy.

Fuck, I'm surprised nothing like this happened in Milwaukee(not really, just a segue). A bunch of black kids when all Coonskin at the State Fair and started beating Whitey like crazy.

Number of Bakshi references today: 1. Now I'm off to watch Fritz the Cat.

I truly do not understand anarchists...claiming it's a 'political statement' to justify their actions. Then again, I'm a big believer in personal responsibility and so maybe my not getting it is to be expected.

well, to be fair, i haven't seen the actual rioters by and large expressing real, politically literate, Anarchist-with-a-capital-A beliefs. seriously, do you think that if you asked any of those people who Kropotkin was they wouldn't think you were offering them something to smoke? or hear "Bakunin" and think anything other than that you were uttering a racial slur?

I saw a Tweet re-posted last night that pretty much summed it up: "I'M NOT POOR BUT WHO SAYS NO TO FREE STUFF?"

Probably not.

In my experience, breaking shit and enacting violence doesn't generally get people to agree with what you're doing.

I saw bits on the national news and the web where a few idiots on the streets were saying that it was politically motivated and a "...needed redistribution of the wealth...". Bullshit.
