Have you ever used 'CV in'?

I've hardly ever thought of needing a CV in socket. I've only ever used one pedal with it (a customised ZVex Seekwah) - and to do that I had to use a TR707 drum machine - MIDI in, 5v spike out...
But a synth player friend of mine says you gotta have it. Is that just because he's from a distant planet?

Possibly. But we have a lot of space aliens around here. I believe that both Kosta and BigChiefBC have waxed rhapsodic about the joys of CV in. (Correct me if I'm wrong about the CV part, fellas... we all know that you're aliens from Alpha Centauri, so you don't need to weigh in on that.)

Well, it really does depend on what type of effect you're talking about, and what the CV is going to control. But if you're using a time-based effect, particularly anything with an LFO/rate control, it is very nice to be able to sync it to your drum machine or to whatever is keeping the time in your song.

Yea, all my older rack units have CV in to control at least one parameter.
Back in the day it was the only way to change delay settings on the fly without a roadie.
Well, that and the digital sweep catching up or slowing down was an effect in and of itself on the 8 and 12 bit units.

I want a drum machine with the +5V CV out so I can hook it up to my DSD2 delay. Haven't found one yet. I thought midi made it obsolete

I love CV control! If I had my way most is not all pedals would have at least one control have a CV jack.

Dude is it just me or is that thing sketchy as fuck it looks like every time you turn a knob you melt your knuckles.

The drum machine doesn't necessarily need to have a dedicated trigger out to do this. Loud audio is often in the neighborhood of 5V. There are vids on YouTube of a guy triggering his DSD-2 or 3 with the hi hat out from a Roland TR 707 or something similar.
And yeah, I am for sure a nut for the CV! Love the stuff. The possibilities are literally endless. The more you have, the better, in my opinion. Clocking a Goatkeeper to the LFO of a Moog Phaser and then using the LFO of the Goatkeeper to modulate the mix knob or the delay time of a Moog Delay? That is some shit right there. Or using the envelope output of a Moog Low-Pass filter to envelope the mix on the Moog Delay? Using the CV outs on a Mini Ark to control a Metasonix Ring Mod is also a shit-ton of fun.
This is kinda my favorite topic. Let me know if anyone has any specific questions.
