Funny you should post this. I listened to Midnight Marauders about six times yesterday. I'll have to keep an eye out for this one.

Limited release and ultimately disappointing. Covers a lot, but only a scratch on the surface. I think that they would divulge details so he made do with what he had. It woulda been nice to hear more about the album making process or something. Definitely worth checking out though.

I wish I could understand hip-hop. Musically, at least. Culturally it's too foreign to me. I just look at music the opposite way. That is, lyrics come last in relevance and importance.

Usually hip hop is the time I hear it most, however, I'm still focused on the beats and the cadence of the rhymes rather the actual content. Listen to A tribe called Quest.

I'm a step ahead of you. I downloaded People's Instinctive Travel's and Path's of Rhythm last night after I saw this thread. I only know the song "Can I Kick It" by them and like that. Just started playing the album now.

I know a lot of early hip-hop uses samples from groups/drummers that I fucking love like Greg Errico from Sly and the Family Stone and Clyde Stubblefield from James Brown's band(The JB's).

Yeah, that first jam is sooooo long. I don't get why. Honestly, if you're starting from the beginning you might as well go chronologically. It only gets better in the most natural ways possible.
