This is really quite amazing. Why you should always look inside the box, and if it's gooped, be wary!

According to posts and gutshots on Freestompboxes and TDPRI, this company Freekish Blues (m@j@ bullshit pedal maker I hadn't heard of til today) have been buying $30 Joyo pedals, repainting and gooping them. Then with some TGP hype, a waiting list and some lies about building them in a basement, they sell them on for $168. The Gear Page are doing the 3 wise monkey thing and temp banning anyone who mentions the topic, while this dodgy company keep ripping people off.

It's funny as well because the joyo pedals are essentially knockoffs.

as far as the TGP closing threads, it would seem to me that they get how much false buzz they create towards substandard "boutique" pedals and probably want to sweep it under the rug.

They haven't closed threads where people are only saying positive things about the alpha drive, just the ones where people point this out...

what kindof decent forum can you have or decent anything if people can't say anything negative.

I don't think its a problem with people saying something negative, more so the shit storm that those kind of threads create on TGP
Sometimes its better to protect their delicate, consumer egos from the truth rather than deal with the ensuing mental struggle and aggression
They're really strict about member/member e-violence, so you can imagine how much work in terms of bannings and warnings they're saving themselves by closing those threads
also, maintains the forums sense and air of stability/maturity (though that obviously breaks down the second you mention the lovepedal amp 11 is a timmy clone, etc.)

re op: seems almost like a cruel and elaborate joke targeting TGP forumites
the whimsy aesthetic, 'freekish blues', THADDEUS HOGARTH, how could they resist these pedals?

anyway... yeah i've heard about some sketchy pedal brands such as Beta Aivin basically being Boss in a different enclosure... i guess it exists and it's deep, but we probably can't really solve it

Yeah the thread about the freekish blues stuff over on TGP extends for 36pages!!!! and Freekish blues does claim that they have their circuit boards printed in China and that the boards were wripped off and re-sold to Joyo, there are absolutely no copy-write standards over here so that is sortof possible, but doesn't quite explain all the other similarities. Looks like in this instance the people that get hurt are the cork sniffers, the other way to look at it is that i can buy a boutique pedal for 30 bucks!! Not sure I feel bad for the TGP cork sniffers if this is a rip-off but I do feel bad for people throwing down an extra hundred bucks through musicians friend for the Akai pedal when they could just by the Biyang stuff.



Just curious, how many ILF builders outsource boards to China?

i get my PCBs fabricated in china.
i get the enclosures for my "production" pedals pre-drilled somewhere in the US.
i get my silkscreening done here in philadelphia.

i do the rest. circuit design/breadboarding, PCB layout/design, in some cases the graphic design, component placement, soldering, wiring, testing, boxing up, shipping, emails, marketing, website maintenance, updating everything, etc. etc. etc. party time!

it sure would be a lot easier to buy some pre-made pedals and just rehouse them...

would be easier, but nowhere near as awesome.

I can't even be sure that's what this guy is doing, but it just looks like a mess.

If you look at the shots of the boards on FSB it's obvious the boards came to him populated (which casts doubt on the already unlikely "re-sold to joyo" story) and he's ripped out some of the components and changed them pretty messily, the name on the pcb is scratched out. Even if they are his design, it's not good workmanship.
