If you're taking an instrument out, always have a hard case, and personally latch it and carry it. Don't trust anyone else to carry it.
Never plug into a wall outlet without first testing that it is properly grounded. $5 ground tester will save your $500 amp.
Most musicians are unreliable. The ones who aren't are the ones that aren't interested in playing with you because they already have paid gigs.
Effects are 99% snake oil and superstition on the part of guitar players and bassists. 1% of the effects are the real deal and sound good.
DUMBLZ TOANS are the best.
She's just not that into you.
Reputation is everything. Be honest, be fair, be generous.
Don't waste time on bigots and haters.
Tone is all in the player; play your shit gear until you sound good.
Practice doesn't make perfect, but it does do a lot of similar things to the brain as meditation does.
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/20 ... 083421.htmNew research shows that musicians' brains are highly developed in a way that makes the musicians alert, interested in learning, disposed to see the whole picture, calm, and playful. The same traits have previously been found among world-class athletes, top-level managers, and individuals who practice transcendental meditation.

Something I learned a while back that seems obvious but at the time was mind-blowing to me:
If you hit a wrong note by accident, sliding up or down one fret, or repeating the wrong note will make it sound both good and intentional.

Didn't bebop jazz solos take advantage of this to an extreme? As long as the root notes in your phrase are there, you can pretty much slide up/down to whatever and sound highly technical.

it's not an accident if you do it twice.
history doesn't repeat itself, but it rhymes.
nothing lasts other than love freely given with no expectation of return.
always bring extra strings.
nobody likes the only person at the event without an accurate, silent tuner.
women like you better if you give them lots of orgasms. 2 for each one of yours is good.
never trust ANYONE 100% except your Mom. and keep an eye on her.
if what you're doing isn't working, try something else.
if something can't go on indefinitely, it won't.
if you feel like you're going crazy, talk to a mental health professional.
pay your traffic tickets before they tack on the extra $500 in administrative penalties.

It's ridiculous how often I do this kind of thing. Usually I'll just turn it into some riff with a weird emphasis on another note and repeat that.

That's funny, that's related to what I do. When I hit a wrong note, I then hit a note a tritone above or below it, just to make it seem like I'm playing intentionally discordant and abrasive intervals.

Yeah, I do that too. Being confident and unapologetic about fuckups make them seem cool.

The best and scariest thing I've ever learned: No one cares. They're all too self-absorbed to pay any attention to you. So do anything with enough authority and you'll get away with it.

unfortunately, that principle is most likely to fail at the point you'll depend on it most.
