For the same $500 you can get an iPad that will do way more. Hell. For $200 you can get an iPod Touch that will do way more, and still have more battery life and power under the hood - in a smaller package.

I think Christian just likes to keep things analog.

so the entire concept of this thing is based upon pirating roms of old games? i dont see that going well. legal issues aside, the total market of people who know how to run an emulator and don't have a ds flashcard already is probably like 6, 7 tops.
ALSO, THERE'S THIS: Runs on the Linux operating system (2.6.x)
NOPE NOPE NOPE

iOS will do more than LInux? The specs on the devices are similar..
But I think you're missing the point. The Pandora is for gaming. Playing N64/PS1 games on an iPad/iPod would be kinda terrible...
I agree it's too expensive, though.

For the end user, yeah. Not everyone feels like typing command line shit to perform basic functions. The thing has a 600mhz processor. The new iPad (that's the same price, mind you) has a dual core 1GHz processor. Even the iPod Touch for $200 has an 800mhz processor.
As for gaming, go check out the stuff Gameloft is doing with iOS. Console quality games for under $10. They're just one of dozens of companies/developers creating awesome games for iOS devices.
Plus, if you REALLY want that whole "OMGZ IS RUNNING LINUX ON SOMETHING SMALL" thing, there's linux for jailbroken devices. And emulators. And hackery nonsense that all the linux fans can go nuts over.
I'm a fan of Apple's stuff, but if there's something better, I'll say so. The Pandora just seems like a waste by comparison - especially against an iPod Touch for less than half the cost.

You don't have to do everything with code on Linux. I ran Linux for a couple of years and never really learned the code. There are some very easy to use Linux distributions available.
The iPad is a lot bigger. Know what else you can get for $500? A laptop. Doesn't really count.
Not everyone wants to go through the hassle of jailbreaking their device to run things Apple doesn't like.
Sorry, I just hate when something gets posted and someone comes in with "APPLE MAKES A FAIRLY UNRELATED PRODUCT THAT'S BETTER."
I already said the thing is too expensive... I just don't get how an iPad or iPod Touch is a real replacement for it. They're -totally- different. The Pandora is built around gaming. I'm not so much dissing the iPad... I just think you're comparing an iPad to what is basically a more powerful, tricked out Nintendo DS.

The reason it's expensive is that it was made by a VERY small British team. No giant company that has billions due to selling their wares to teenage children who like to hang in starbucks.
