back story.
once driving home at 2 am listening to the local college station, where they play more jazz than anything (thankfully) they played a version of an old nat king cole tune I'd never heard. I got home and the song wasn't over, so I sat there, in the rain, listening to it. it kept going where the nat king cole version stopped, it told a story that I'd only partially lived, partially known about and partially expected
it was so....relevant to me, so much something I'd like to write.
I went inside to look it up on their site, it was playing so it wasn't on the playlist part of the site yet.
I checked the next day and still nothing, sometime went by and...well turns out that night their server crashed and they had no way of retrieving that song
well, ok, I thought, I'll just youtube it
nothing
I'll ask around, someones gotta know
nothing
I'll google
and I googled and googled and kept on googling, every way I could think of of I googled over and over again
eventually I came to think I'd never find it, and that thought hurt
I'd think of that song and hope that maybe one day a friend would inadvertantly play it and know who it was by and remind me of, all at once, and I'd thank him or her....
there was another song like this, that really stuck with me and was never able to find, but I did, eventually I did
that gave me both hope and sadness, how was I supposed to find this song if the lyrics apperantly didn't even exist? what....can I do...
well tonight I went crazy for a little bit, sad, jsut really sad and I looked for it again
I typed out what I rememberd about the lyrics into google and read every hit, and when i say read I mean I examined it, scavenged each word for some kind of hint, or clue...something
eventually after some number of pages I found a song title "Where Did Everyone Go?/How Did She Look? "
upon reading that I actually got choked up, I thought I had found it
I tried not to get excited but I couldn't help it
I followed the link and it led me to Freddy Cole....I listened to the sample on the site and it didn't help all that much, at this point I couldn't remember the singers voice, I thought he might sound like tom waits actually, I really had no idea anymore, and the sample only contained the parts from the original song, by nat king cole.
this album wasn't even carried on amazon, so far as I could tell, how was I supposd to find torrent for something so unknown?
well again, aftersome obssesive digging I found it
I downloaded it and started typing this
once it was done downloading I tried to finish this post but had to listen to the song
I listened and it was definitely it but couldn't let myself get ovverjoyed simply because there was a chacne it wasnt it and I didn't want that dissapointment
it got the second part of the song....and I seriously cried a bit
my eyes teared up, throat closed and hands compulsively flew to cover my face
I found it.
EDIT:
some people requested so I uploaded it, heres the song
