This is apparently why we all like guitar stuff...

Best quote... “Semiotically signified magical thinking causes replicas to radiate aura and thus transforms them into fetishes.”

Why would someone pay $959,500 for a used guitar?

THEY STRAIGHT RETARDED SON

But why build an exact replica of the guitar and all its nicks and scratches?

These scientists are like the ones who study why people are attracted to certain types of people. They think about it because they aren't doing it. Rock out science man, or at least get your carrot skinned.

"These guitar collectors insisted that even a factory-made replica of a famous musician’s guitar had a certain something that enabled them to play better music."

“Semiotically signified magical thinking causes replicas to radiate aura and thus transforms them into fetishes.”

that is not in any sense whatsoever a scientific statement. that's deconstructionist philosophical crapola dressed in a lab coat.

Quick, someone call Deepak Chopra. We're onto him.
I'd also like to point out that the article talks about social scientists ... i.e., not real scientists ... more like humanities people in labcoats with a handful of $2 words that they don't understand.

Rich people and money is sort of like normal people and piss. It just gets repelled by force when nature calls.

That actually sounds like an anthropologist....

I just realized this study wasn't to tell normal jackoffs like us why other people spend $959,500 on a guitar. It's to tell guitar companies how they can get people to spend $959,500 on a guitar. Follow the money. Who do you think paid for the study?

That's a silly rhetorical question. I really don't have any desire to know who paid for such a silly study, or at least who put it into such stupid terms. You could at least say it's about something like, "Monetizing the cultural worth of artifacts associated with celebrities," rather than, "Hey! Why you drop all dat cash?"
