Some of the recent threads make me wonder. How many of you still live with your parents? Are your parents paying for you to live away from them?

Do you feel like you're prolonging your adolescence? Could you live on your own? Have you cut the cord?

I have lived on my own and been self sustaining before but failed miserably at life. At the current time i would not be able to move out. RIght now i have like $6.50 to my name and im using that to get a steak burrito tomorrow. I know alot of people say "its not my fault" but theres some elements of truth to that for me. As soon as i graduated hikeschool my family moved me to an economic and cultural asshole with absolutely NO opportunities career wise. I wasted alot of money on a shitty school that i eventually dropped out of a sememster or two shy of a degree. Now i am a disabled alcoholic who spends his time playing an electric guitar acoustically, watching shitty sci fi on netflix, playing vidja games, and being depressed at not having anyone cool to play warhammer with. Times kick ass.

I am financially stable enough to live on my own, but I have no motivation to actively seek another place to live.
My parents really don't seem to care that I still live at home.

I do. I pay rent, but none the less, live at home. I've lived on my own before when I've had less money than I do now, so it is possible for me to be self-sustaining, yet I'm not. As bad as it sounds, it's a convenient arrangement for the time being to save money up for later, although I guess I should've started doing that awhile ago. So I guess in a way, be it unintentional or not, I'm prolonging my adolescence. Adultolescence?

How can you rock out with old people in the house?

I live in an apartment and all my fucking money goes to rent and electricity and water. But yeah, I guess I'm not afraid of having to support myself anymore, I know exactly how hard/easy it is. I have 3 pretty awesome roommates, as in, they always pay their share of the bills; that's important, much more than them actually being people I'd like to spend time with. I just signed the lease for a house to rent next year, with my brother, one of my current roommates, and my brother's friend; pretty exited - I'll have a garage and yard! It's really close to a lake, too, and the rent is cheaper than what I'm paying now.

Also you can smoke and have sex whenever you want instead of only when you parents are at work or out of the house.

Yeah, if only I smoked or ever talked to girls. I guess I should get on that.

Moved out when I was 17, never looked back...despite my mom begging me to come back home. She still asks when I'm moving back in.

I do, but only because I can't use power tools in an apartment.

Also, I like not having to buy food.

But I'm gonna move out as soon as some of the friends I could actually live with are ready to move. Might try to have a rental house with a garage! YEAH!

My parents still help me a lot. Not financially, but they're a big part of my life, and they're and important part of my kid's lives!

Roommates can come and go, but your parents are the most important bond you can have.
